Mechanical Fitter – Special Purpose Machinery Assembly
A busy and established engineering firm is currently looking for a skilled Mechanical Fitter to support the assembly of bespoke machinery. The ideal candidate will be responsible for building a variety of mechanical systems from engineering drawings, ensuring high-quality standards are consistently met.
Key Responsibilities:
* Assemble mechanical components and systems based on technical drawings and specifications
* Perform general sub-assembly and full machine build tasks, from small parts to large sections
* Install bearings, taper lock pulleys, gears, and associated drive components
* Route and fit pneumatic and hydraulic pipework
* Use a wide range of hand and power tools safely and effectively
* Carry out inspections to verify quality and accuracy of completed assemblies
* Work in compliance with health and safety guidelines, maintaining a tidy work area
* Collaborate with team members to improve workflows and resolve build-related issues
Requirements:
* Time-served mechanical fitter or engineer with relevant trade background
* Recognised mechanical engineering qualification
* Strong understanding of mechanical principles and component assembly
* Ability to read and interpret complex engineering drawings
* Experience with pneumatic and hydraulic systems
* Confident using both hand and power tools; familiarity with machine tools is a bonus
* Previous fabrication experience is advantageous
* Strong communication and teamwork skills
* Able to lead by example and uphold high professional standards
* Comfortable working independently or as part of a fast-paced production team
