Grade: Senior Management Team, salary equivalent to AfC Band 8a-8b depending on experience
Hours: 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday
Reports to: CEO


Job Summary

This pivotal role at Kilbryde Hospice is integral to the organisation’s transformation and growth. As Clinical Services Director you will provide strong, visible leadership across all care services, drive clinical excellence, service redesign, innovation, quality improvement, and regulatory compliance, and support the Senior Management Team and the organization’s strategy.


Strategic and Operational Leadership

* Provide dynamic leadership and oversight of all clinical services, ensuring alignment with the organisation’s strategic aims and values.
* Deputise for the Chief Executive when required.


Regulation, Governance & Quality

* Act as Registered Manager with Healthcare Improvement Scotland (HIS) and fulfil responsibilities for Controlled Drugs under Scottish legislation.
* Lead clinical governance, audit, risk and compliance processes.
* Serve as Caldicott Guardian and Safeguarding Lead, ensuring GDPR and data protection compliance.
* Chair the Clinical Quality Audit & Risk Committee and oversee infection prevention and control.


Clinical Leadership & Performance

* Inspire and support the clinical workforce, ensuring compassionate, inclusive, people‑centred care.
* Lead regular reviews of performance, quality standards and service delivery, reporting to the CEO and trustees.
* Drive continuous service improvement, monitor KPIs and integrate patient, carer and staff feedback.
* Embed safeguarding, infection prevention and risk management in everyday practice.
* Provide holistic patient and family support, including bereavement support.
* Line‑manage the In‑patient Unit Manager and other senior nursing and allied health professionals.
* Lead appraisals, supervision and development planning; champion staff wellbeing, retention and leadership development.
* Oversee recruitment and induction of new clinical, health‑care staff and volunteers.


Education and Development

* Promote in‑house education, training and clinical supervision.
* Design and deliver the hospice’s education programme.
* Maintain links with external providers and universities for continuous professional development.


Partnerships and Representation

* Build strong partnerships across the health and care system, including NHS Lanarkshire, Health and Social Care Partners, GPs and third‑sector partners.
* Negotiate service‑level agreements and commissioning discussions with statutory partners.
* Represent Kilbryde Hospice at strategic forums, professional networks and sector events.
* Advocate for high‑quality palliative and end‑of‑life care in South Lanarkshire.


Additional Responsibilities

* Promote the Hospice Vision, Mission and Values and uphold the Corporate Strategy.
* Maintain compliance with Equalities and Diversity Policies.
* Monitor income and expenditure of clinical services and ensure financial sustainability.
* Manage budgets, controls and health & safety responsibilities.
* Participate in on‑call rota for SMT where appropriate.
* Ensure staff adhere to patient record keeping, best practice and disclosure clearances.


General Responsibilities of All Employees

* Comply with all Kilbryde Hospice policies and procedures.
* Support volunteering initiatives and maintain confidentiality of personal information.
* Follow infection prevention and control, health & safety and non‑smoking policies.
* Adhere to the Code of Conduct and Dignity at Work principles.

Person Specification: Clinical Services Director

Summary: Experienced registered health professional with senior leadership experience in healthcare, strong strategic, operational and people‑management skills, and a deep understanding of clinical governance and regulatory frameworks.


Qualifications & Training

* Registered health professional with current UK registration.
* Degree level education.
* Experience of business development and hospice funding/budgeting.


Experience

* Extensive senior‑level leadership in a healthcare setting.
* Experience in business development within the care sector.
* Experience in hospice funding and budgeting.


Knowledge

* National frameworks, regulatory bodies and clinical standards.
* Strategic planning and operational leadership for clinical services.


Skills

* Strong understanding of regulatory frameworks, budget management and business planning.
* Patient safety, clinical quality audit and risk management.
* Workforce development, motivation and performance management.
* Proficient with patient record systems and data governance.
* Effective communication, public speaking and interpersonal skills.


Other

* Flexibility and ability to work across multiple shifts.
* Evidence of ongoing professional development.
