Based At: Milltown Industrial Estate, Warrenpoint, BT34 3FN, but must be flexible to work across numerous sites within the Deli Lites Estate.

Responsible To: Head of Food Innovation and Development

Key Purpose: The post-holder will be responsible for creating and developing new bakery products, overseeing their handover, trials, and initial production, ensuring quality, consistency, and adherence to specifications.

The Bakery Development Chef will drive product improvement, benchmark against competitors, foster innovation, and train bakery staff to enhance their skills. They will collaborate with NPD staff to develop product specifications, including assembly, cooking, and staging photographs.

Operational Responsibilities:

1. Liaise with the Head of Food Innovation and Development, Food Innovation Manager, Deli Lites Innovation Chef, Quality, Production, Technical, Purchasing, Finance, Sales, and senior management to introduce new products/ranges across Bakery, Chilled, and Frozen categories.
2. Present new ideas and concepts to customers.
3. Conduct product development activities, including concept creation, presentation, sign-off, cost analysis, kitchen trials, staff training, shelf life testing, product handovers, and launches.
4. Oversee the integration of new products into the bakery, including sourcing raw materials, providing specifications and labels, and coordinating product handovers to the factory team.
5. Ensure product samples sent to customers meet specifications and requirements prior to dispatch.
6. Develop products in line with NPD procedures and customer codes of practice.
7. Maintain product safety by using qualified suppliers and appropriate raw materials.
8. Perform ongoing quality assessments, including taste testing, specification compliance, and benchmarking.
9. Assist technical teams in approving new suppliers, verifying suitability, and ensuring allergen compliance.
10. Coordinate the transfer of new products from NPD to production, including recipe development, labeling, standards, staff training, and post-launch assessments.
11. Monitor existing products to ensure they meet specifications and brand standards.
12. Stay updated on industry trends to keep the company competitive.
13. Promote a healthy, safe, secure, and productive working environment.
