Overview
Laboratory Manager – Location: Tewkesbury. Job Type: Full-time, 40 hours per week (Monday-Friday, with out of hours presence in urgent operational needs). Salary: £36,500 per annum.
Day-to-Day of the Role
* Ensure product safety, quality, and compliance with food safety standards.
* Coordinate laboratory team to carry out testing and sampling of raw materials, in-process materials, finished products, and shelf life.
* Maintain and calibrate laboratory equipment according to schedule.
* Prepare for, participate in, and assist in site accreditation audits.
* Manage non-conforming product reports and liaise with the Technical Manager and Production Management regarding product failures.
* Maintain laboratory hygiene, safety, and documentation standards.
* Drive laboratory accreditation improvements and troubleshoot technical and operational issues.
* Manage and develop laboratory personnel, fostering a collaborative and efficient work environment.
* Develop laboratory procedures and coordinate KPIs as required.
Required Skills & Qualifications
* Confidence, initiative, and a proactive mindset.
* Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
* Proficiency in Microsoft Office and QMS platforms.
* Background experience in a laboratory function, preferably in Food Science, Microbiology, or Biology.
* Knowledge of BRCGS Food Safety standards, HACCP principles, and Food Safety Management Systems.
* Experience in coordinating small teams within a laboratory environment.
* Knowledge of the Dairy industry and strong attention to detail in report writing.
* Desirable: Educated to HNC/Degree level in a science-related subject and strong knowledge of Food Microbiology & Food Chemistry.
