Overview

We are looking for one or two enthusiastic and committed Salaried GPs to join our CQC Outstanding-rated practice from January 2026 to provide maternity cover. We require 4 to 8 sessions per week, for 6 to 12 months, with clarification subject to mutual agreement. Interviews will be held for shortlisted candidates during the week of 3 November. You will be joining a supportive, community-focused team where workloads are fair and sustainable and where colleagues look after each other as well as their patients. Our practice has a long-standing reputation for high quality, evidence-based care and innovation, and we place real value on professional development, even within fixed-term posts. Responsibilities

* Sessions: 4 to 8 per week (flexible)
* Contract: Fixed term 6 to 12 months
* Duties: Routine surgeries, home visits, participation in the duty doctor rota (approximately one day every other week), and associated administrative tasks
* Professional Development: Weekly Gold Standard Framework meetings, PLT attendance, study leave, and opportunities for teaching medical students and GP registrars
* Start Date: January 2026
* Requirements: GMC registration and General Practice CCT with a licence to practise in the UK

Job Description & Qualifications

Job responsibilities

Clinical Duties

* Routine and acute surgeries with 12-minute appointments for all consultations (telephone or face-to-face).
* Duty doctor sessions managed via AccuRx total triage. Full training and support provided.
* Home visits as clinically required, taken from clinical session time (not additional to workload).
* Participation in the duty doctor rota (approximately one day every other week).

Non-Clinical Duties

* Administration time included: each session comprises 3 hours of clinical work and 1 hour of admin.
* Covering the administrative workload list for patients ordinarily under the care of the doctor on maternity leave.
* Review and action of results, correspondence, and tasks.
* Contribution to clinical governance, audits, and quality improvement activities.
* Participation in weekly Gold Standard Framework meetings and PLT sessions.
* Teaching opportunities with medical students and GP registrars (if desired).

General Responsibilities

* To undertake all duties ordinarily expected of a UK-trained GP with CCT and GMC licence to practise.
* To work within GMC Good Medical Practice principles and within the limits of competence.
* To contribute positively to the team ethos, ensuring high-quality, evidence-based, and compassionate patient care.


Person Specification

Qualifications

* GMC registration with licence to practise in the UK
* Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) in General Practice (or within 6 months of completion at time of application)
* Eligibility to work in the UK
* Commitment to high quality, evidence-based and compassionate patient care
* Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team
* Good organisational, communication and interpersonal skills
* Ability to manage clinical risk and work within professional boundaries and GMC Good Medical Practice
* Willingness to participate in duty doctor rota, home visits, and administrative responsibilities for a patient list
* Commitment to ongoing professional development

Desirable

* Interest in teaching or training medical students/GP registrars
* Experience of audit, quality improvement or clinical governance activities
* Familiarity with EMIS and AccuRx (training will be provided if required)
* Additional clinical interests that complement the needs of the practice

Experience

* Essential: Experience of working in UK general practice

Desirable: Experience of audit, quality improvement or clinical governance activities; Familiarity with EMIS and AccuRx (training will be provided if required)

UK Registration: Applicants must have current UK professional registration.
