An exciting opportunity has arisen for a permanent Ward Manager position on Morris Ward, a 15-bedded male Low Secure Forensic Unit (LSU). This specialist ward supports users of service who present a high risk to themselves and/or others, and is proudly registered with the Quality Forensic Mental Health Network.
You will join a dedicated multi-disciplinary team committed to delivering high-quality, patient-centred care. You will play a pivotal role in leading the team, ensuring clinical excellence, and fostering a therapeutic environment that promotes recovery and rehabilitation.

Ward Context
Morris Ward is a low secure inpatient service which cares for patients detained under the Mental Health Act who require care and treatment under low-security conditions due to the risk they pose to themselves and others. This includes histories of aggression, absconding, criminal offences, severe and intractable clinical symptoms, and serious drug/alcohol misuse.
Responsibilities
* Line manage in-patient staff.
* Ensure that the Trust physical health policy is implemented.
* Identify clinical risk and develop SMART care plans and risk management plans for each patient.
* Promote service user and carer involvement and respond constructively to comments, suggestions, complaints, and compliments.
* Ensure ward interventions are evidence-based and carry out audits.
* Carry out supervision, appraisals and performance reviews in line with the Knowledge and Skills Framework.
* Participate in Directorate Quality and Safety and Inpatient Experience Group meetings to develop practice and support ward staff.
* Work closely with support services (Practice Improvement Practitioners, HR, Finance, infection control) to ensure adherence to Trust policies.
* Undertake assessment of clients’ needs and support the MDT in formulating appropriate individual care plans with a holistic approach.
* Complete and maintain 5 days of Prevention and Management of Violence and Aggression training (yearly update) and implement in practice as required.
* Deputise in the absence of the Modern Matron.
* Ensure relatives and carers feel supported and able to communicate effectively with the clinical team.
* Take steps to maintain the safety and welfare of staff, patients and visitors on the ward.
Leadership and Governance
* Lead in assessment planning, implementation and evaluation of nursing care; manage daily ward functioning and staff/resource management.
* Oversee patient referrals and assessments; embed supervision, appraisal and Personal Development Plans; promote supervision as a positive influence for practice.
* Provide a visible, accessible, and authoritative presence in clinical settings for staff, patients and carers; champion contemporary evidence-based nursing interventions.
Directorate and Trust Engagement
* Participate in relevant Directorate Quality and Safety and Inpatient Experience Group meetings to develop practice and provide ward-level support.
* Collaborate with Practice Improvement Practitioners, HR, Finance and Infection Control to ensure adherence to Trust policies.
