JR PAT Testing is expanding across the UK and is looking for experienced PAT Engineers. Positions are self‑employed with flexible hours, allowing part‑time or full‑time engagement. Candidates must own their own insurance and keep their equipment calibrated annually. You should be able to commute from Colchester or nearby; national travel is encouraged if desired.

Responsibilities
As a PAT Engineer you will travel to a variety of sites—hospitals, retail outlets, offices, and other workplaces—to test electrical appliances for safety and compliance. Tasks include:
* Preparing and packing testing instruments, record books, and safety equipment.
* Conducting tests on appliances such as microwaves, kettles, computers, and other electronic devices.
* Interpreting test results, determining whether appliances are safe or require repair or replacement.
* Providing users with clear explanations of test outcomes and recommendations.
* Recording findings in PAT test report books or electronic systems, and supplying employers with copies or certificates.
* Completing any required paperwork, such as completion certificates and checklists.
* Maintaining organization, accuracy, and efficiency while moving between sites.
Typical Day
Each day begins with packing all necessary tools and equipment into your van. You then travel to the first job, perform PAT testing, document results, and communicate findings to the site’s staff. Throughout the day you stay mobile—sometimes alone, sometimes with a small team—continuously ensuring tests are completed safely and according to regulations. The role is physically demanding and requires patience, attention to detail, and strong communication skills.
Qualifications
• City & Guilds 2377 PAT qualification or equivalent.
• Own calibrated testing equipment and valid insurance.
• Reliable, honest, and with a ‘can‑do’ attitude.
• Ability to travel to various work sites and manage a schedule independently.
