Job Summary
ABL Health and Wirral Council are partnered to deliver the Stop Smoking Service across Wirral. It seeks to work collaboratively with communities to support the transformation of services for the local population. The service will provide integrated behaviour support for smoking cessation embedded in sustainable behaviour change and positive wellbeing. We offer up to 12 weeks support through an individual quit programme through weekly tailored advice and support from a Specialist Practitioner.
Main duties of the job
We’re looking for a community-focused individual to join our Wirral team. This varied, rewarding role works under the guidance of the Project Lead to drive engagement, support innovation, and contribute to ongoing service development. You will be responsible for implementing ABL’s Community Engagement Strategy and promoting the Wirral Stop Smoking Service across the borough. Working closely with our communications team, you will help raise the profile of the service through creative campaigns and community initiatives.
You will engage with local partners, primary and secondary care colleagues, and community organisations to build strong relationships, develop referral pathways, and explore opportunities for collaboration. The role involves organising and delivering training sessions, attending local meetings and events, and representing ABL to promote Stop Smoking Wirral. You will monitor referral data and use insights to shape engagement activity, contribute to reports, and support communications through social media, events, and awareness campaigns.
We’re looking for someone innovative, organised, and open to new ideas who enjoys working collaboratively and is confident presenting to groups. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required to support events. Job Description
Job responsibilities
* You will be the Community Engagement Officer for Wirral Stop Smoking Service covering all areas of the Borough with a focus on areas of deprivation and higher smoking prevalence.
* Lead on community engagement and drive awareness of the service through promotions, social media and engagement activities. Increase referrals by promoting community engagement and building long-lasting relationships with local partners and stakeholders.
* Develop and maintain strong, positive relationships with stakeholder groups at district level, including leisure services, the voluntary/community/faith/social enterprises sector, community services, GP practices and maternity services.
* Be a motivated, passionate, organised, proactive communicator with experience in a community setting. Use ABL’s strengths-based approach to innovation and partnership working.
* Work flexibly to support dynamic service development and embody the vision and values for healthy lifestyles in Wirral Stop Smoking.
* Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and external partners; attend local meetings and events; represent ABL and promote Stop Smoking Wirral; support monitoring and evaluation activities.
* Support to update the partnership database, prepare reports, and contribute to quarterly updates.
* Lead and attend local events across the Borough; support communications strategies to promote the service and capture referrals (occasional weekend/evening work may be required).

* Experience in community engagement and partnership working in a community health environment.
* Experience of building and maintaining partnerships from scratch.
* Positive and proactive with the ability to motivate, engage and support partnership delivery.
* Adept in communication and able to adapt messages to audience needs; able to see the bigger picture in problem solving for community cohesion.
* Ability to build strong relationships and foster trust among colleagues, stakeholders, community leaders, commissioners and subcontractors.
* Quality driven; seeks high standards and continuous improvement; open to new ideas and perspectives.

Person Specification
Essential:
* At least 3 years’ experience in a community setting.
* Experience of working in a health care environment.
* Demonstrable experience of partnership working.
* Demonstrable experience of speaking to large groups.
Desirable:
* Experience in a leadership role.
* Previous experience of delivering training programmes and focus groups.
* Experience of public speaking and partnership working with various organizations.
