The Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust (LTHT) is one of the largest and busiest NHS acute healthcare providers in Europe and is a regional and national centre for specialist treatment.
We are delighted to be offering new flexible, full and part time opportunities for Registered Midwives wishing to join our workforce as Bank Only staff.
We welcome applications from experienced Registered Midwives who would like to undertake flexible working hours across our multi-site organisation.
As well as traditional shift patterns, we can offer opportunities for candidates who are keen to work outside of standard shift patterns e.g. those with carer responsibilities or commitments who need a more flexible working pattern
Please note, interviews for this role will be held on 27th June.
Main duties of the job
The role is to provide and be responsible for the assessment of care needs, the development, implementation and evaluation of programmes of care, and may be required to teach other midwives and non-midwifery staff. You will take responsibility as the prime care provider for a group of women and will deliver care without supervision and at all times promote confidence in our commitment to provide excellent compassionate patient care.
Due to the nature of a bank role, this position only suitable for Midwives that have completed their 18 month preceptorship period and are currently working at a Band 6 level.
This role is advertised as a Bank role, and therefore the job holder would be on a LTHT Bank Contract. This enables the job holder to work flexibly and ad hoc basis across all LTHT sites, supporting the staffing requirements by opting for and booking in to shifts as available. The pay rate will be that of a Band 6 Bank Spot Salary.
As part of the role, we will provide a bespoke training and induction programme, including PROMPT and Fetal Monitoring, to be completed before you start in role.

Job responsibilities
The maternity units have approximately 10,000 births a year. LTHT is a tertiary referral centre for both obstetrics and neonatology. Other specialities within the hospital that impact on maternity unit are feto-maternal medicine, adult and neonatal cardiology, neonatal surgery and a reproductive medicine unit. The post holder will work within the maternity units, caring for women and their babies before, during and after pregnancy depending on the area.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES & AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY
Clinical
* Maintain a high standard of women centred care in accordance with Leeds Teaching Hospitals Trust guidelines and policies
* Act as a referral agent and co-ordinator of care provision.
* Establishes effective multi-agency collaboration across the primary/secondary interface to meet the needs of the patients.
* Act as a role model for the development of clinical skills and knowledge within the department team
* Maintain a safe working environment
* Support the Senior Midwife in setting and monitoring standards and seek to continuously improve standards and the quality of patient care, including national standards
* Promote evidence based practice.
* Participate in the audit and evaluation of clinical practice in the interests of promoting quality care
* Provide assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of midwifery care for women and their babies, ensuring written records are kept to NMC standards
* Communicate with women and carers to ensure they have access to appropriate information
* Promote and maintain positive relationships between all staff involved in the care of women.
* Undertake duties on different wards or depts. as and when required by service demands
* Act in such a way that safeguards the health and wellbeing of children and vulnerable adults at all times. Is familiar with and adheres to, the LTHT safeguarding policies.

* Working with Team leader to provide leadership to the clinical team, developing new ways of working
* Support Senior Midwife in investigating and responding to complaints, untoward incidents and other significant events
* Work with Matron/Team Leader to promote the development of midwives as considered appropriate
* Proactively promotes and uses the Leeds Improvement Method to improve the quality and safety of our services.
* Work closely with Research and Innovation to promote research, disseminate outcomes and findings to support evidence based practice
