About the Role
We are seeking a motivated and flexible On-Site Engineer to join our growing technical team. This is an excellent opportunity for an engineer who enjoys hands-on, client-facing work and is looking to develop their skills within a specialist Validation, Thermal Mapping and Calibration services environment.
Reporting to the Engineering Manager, you will be responsible for delivering on-site activities at customer locations, ensuring all work is completed efficiently, safely and in full compliance with documented procedures and customer requirements. Full in-house and external training will be provided where required.
The role involves regular UK travel, variable working hours, and occasional unsociable hours or weekend work. A company vehicle is provided, with all travel and accommodation expenses covered.
Key Responsibilities
* Configure VQS temperature and humidity recording equipment in line with documented test methods
* Carry out Thermal (Temperature) Mapping campaigns for temperature-controlled storage areas and transport/shipping systems
* Perform calibration activities on temperature and humidity instruments for internal and client use
* Liaise professionally with clients and suppliers to ensure successful project delivery
* Complete all associated documentation and certification accurately and in a timely manner
* Identify, report and help resolve technical issues and equipment defects
* Ensure all equipment used on-site holds valid calibration status
* Apply company and client Quality, Health & Safety and Environmental policies at all times
* Maintain company vehicles and on-site equipment in good working order
* Advise administrative colleagues of equipment or materials requiring ordering or calibration
* Work collaboratively with colleagues to maintain an organised, safe and efficient working environment
Skills, Knowledge and Experience
The successful candidate will ideally demonstrate:
* A good understanding of calibration and thermal mapping principles
* Working knowledge of ISO/IEC desirable, not essential)
* Strong written and verbal communication skills
* Excellent attention to detail with the ability to complete tasks to completion
* Good organisational and time management skills
* A professional, courteous and presentable manner when working on client sites
* Competence in Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook (Visio desirable)
Experience with some or all of the following equipment would be advantageous, but is not essential as training will be provided:
* Kaye Validators and Temperature Reference units
* Fluke temperature and data acquisition equipment
* Rotronic and Gemini (Tinytag) data loggers
* LogTag data loggers
* Testo handheld indicators and probes
* Calibration software and suites associated with temperature and humidity measurement
Qualifications
* Educated to a minimum of GCSE level (or equivalent), including Mathematics and English
* No specific technical qualifications required – relevant experience and a willingness to learn are key
