Our client currently has an opportunity for a Programme Design Manager - Sustainability located in Crawley. Job Description: As a Programme Design Manager (Sustainability), you'll be a pivotal part of the company's journey towards Net Zero emissions. Working within a dedicated project delivery team, you'll lead the design efforts for a large and strategically vital programme of work, ensuring the company achieves Net Zero carbon emissions by 2030. This role is instrumental in aligning their sustainability objectives with their infrastructure development plans. The programme is multi-faceted and includes workstreams that will achieve campus decarbonization, reduced water use, infrastructure for electric vehicles, renewable energy and reduced energy use which must all be delivered in a live operational environment. Working with a large variety of stakeholders across multiple business areas, you'll define and agree designs for programme and project requirements, bringing fresh innovative thinking alongside achieving value for money. You'll be expected to work with designers and contractors to ensure that proposals achieve best value and ensure that designs are assured in a timely manner in line with the construction programme. What is the role? Reporting into the Lead Design Manager, you'll own the end-to-end design process and working within the programme delivery team. Your role will include overseeing the delivery for all projects, providing technical assurance and guidance on design solutions, promoting the use of best practice and innovative techniques, technologies and processes and ensuring consistency. Working with external design consultants, you'll deliver effective design solutions for projects on time and within agreed budgets. You'll also work with the Programme Construction Manager, ensuring projects are installed in line with the approved design. Other duties include: - Agreeing achievable project scopes that satisfy the sustainability agenda, programme sponsor, and key stakeholder needs, alongside re-working scopes and technical requirements when important to do so. - An ability to challenge requirements and identify operational constraints and define scope of works to satisfy the business needs. - Experience in interpreting complex requirements by asking the right questions. - Agreeing sustainable design solutions that meet project scopes, are realistically deliverable, meet engineering standards, and are cost effective. - Creating and communicating transparent and clear design briefs to external consultants, and managing consultants to ensure effective implementation of designs that meet quality requirements.
Requirements
The live environment at the company requires all their teams to have a flexible and adaptable approach, problem solving skills and an innovative outlook. Involved in projects from inception to completion you'll work alongside multiple internal and external stakeholders. In addition, this role requires: - Previous multi-disciplinary experience in an engineering design or design management role, ideally in a live operational environment, with a strong focus on significant MEPH (mechanical, electrical, plumbing and heating) projects or multiyear programmes of work with a value typically more than £25 million. - Demonstrable experience of setting and achieving clear programme milestones on high value programmes of work, with an ability to manage and get the most out of budgets and timeframes - Experience of leading multi-disciplinary teams and external consultants - Experience of managing projects with a decarbonisation element is highly desirable - Educated to Degree level or equivalent in relevant Mechanical or Electrical Engineering fields.
