Job Description
OBJECTIVE:
The Product Design Engineer will contribute to the successful development and delivery of innovative, high-quality automotive products by leveraging advanced design skills, cross-functional collaboration, and customer-focused engineering solutions. The role involves transforming customer requirements into manufacturable designs while ensuring compliance with industry standards and performance expectations.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

1. Develop and modify product designs using advanced 2D/3D modeling techniques.
2. Research the purchase of equipment and/or upgrades to existing equipment.
3. Utilize CATIA or similar CAD tools to create accurate and efficient designs.
4. Collaborate closely with internal teams including engineering, manufacturing, and quality to meet customer specifications and ensure seamless product integration.
5. Interpret and incorporate customer requirements into design revisions while maintaining adherence to engineering and quality standards.
6. Communicate directly with OEM customers (e.g., Stellantis, GM, Ford) to clarify design intent, gather requirements, and provide project updates.
7. Apply core engineering principles such as Design for Manufacturing, material selection, and dimensional layouts to ensure robust and cost-effective designs.
8. Support onsite validation, prototype testing, and release activities to verify product performance and compliance.
9. Ensure all product designs meet safety, reliability, and functional performance standards.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY:
This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
While performing duties, the employee may be exposed to fumes, airborne particles, moving mechanical parts, and vibration. The environment can be loud and not temperature-controlled, with potential exposure to high heat conditions.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
The physical demands include regularly talking or hearing, frequently standing, walking, using hands, and reaching. Occasionally, the employee must sit, climb, balance, or stoop. The role requires lifting up to 10 pounds frequently and up to 40 pounds occasionally. Vision abilities include close, distance, peripheral, depth perception, and focus adjustment.
TRAVEL:
* Semi-frequent short-distance travel and infrequent long-distance travel may be required.
* Travel between Meteor facilities may also be necessary.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
* Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Product Design, or a related field.
* 2–5 years of experience in product design engineering; automotive OEM experience is strongly preferred.
* Proficiency in 3D CAD software (CATIA), with strong surface modeling skills as a plus.
* Solid understanding of materials, manufacturing processes, and tolerance analysis.
* Excellent communication skills for collaboration and customer interactions.
* Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
* Experience working with major automotive OEMs (Stellantis, GM, Ford, etc.) is preferred.
* Involvement in cross-functional teams with exposure to plant, quality, and engineering operations is advantageous.
FUNCTIONAL/TECHNICAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITY:
* Strong communication skills, including listening and effective information sharing.
* Good judgment and professionalism; ability to assist with production functions.
* Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, ERP systems, and accurate data entry skills.
