About The Role
The Department of English at the University of Sussex is seeking to appoint an Assistant Professor in English and Creative Writing for a fixed‑term position to cover the period of Professor Matthew Dimmock’s Leverhulme Research Fellowship.
This post will make a significant contribution to the Department’s Creative Writing provision, alongside teaching in English Literature. Candidates should combine expertise in pre‑1800 literatures or historically informed approaches to writing with a strong profile in fiction writing.
About You
The successful candidate will:
* Deliver the undergraduate Creative Writing curriculum.
* Contribute to teaching in historical literature modules.
* Be an experienced published fiction writer or provide clear evidence of high‑level teaching of Creative Writing.
* Have UK teaching experience at undergraduate and/or postgraduate level.
* Exhibit excellent communication skills and work productively within a collaborative and supportive Department.
* Maintain an ongoing engagement with their field, including practice‑based research where appropriate.
Eligibility
The role is a fixed‑term teaching focused position. Visa sponsorship is available under Skilled Worker Sponsorship for eligible candidates (Grade 7.5 and salary requirements).
