Planning Solicitor (1-4 years') – Edinburgh A leading Scottish firm is seeking a Planning Solicitor to join its established team in Edinburgh. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys a mix of contentious and advisory work, with a strong focus on energy, infrastructure and strategic planning matters. The Opportunity: You will support a team led by three partners, advising on a broad range of planning instructions. The role offers early responsibility, strong partner access and the chance to be involved in complex and high-profile work. The team handles a variety of contentious matters including planning appeals, inquiries, hearings, judicial review and enforcement, alongside strategic advisory work and drafting planning obligations. This position is well suited to someone who enjoys detailed analysis, presenting clear advice and working collaboratively across projects in the planning, energy and environmental sectors. Key Responsibilities Advising on contentious planning matters including appeals, inquiries, compensation claims and judicial challenges Providing strategic advice and preparing written opinions Drafting planning obligations and related legal agreements Managing a varied caseload efficiently and delivering work to a high standard Supporting colleagues across the wider team and contributing to training Keeping abreast of legislative and case law developments About You 1-4 years' PQE Knowledge of Scottish planning and environmental law is helpful, but not essential Experience of conducting litigation in the Court of Session and Sheriff Court Ideally, exposure to planning or energy-related inquiries Strong communicator who can provide clear, concise and jargon-free advice Confident, proactive and comfortable working both independently and collaboratively Strong client relationship skills and a commitment to excellent service Working Environment: The team offers a supportive and flexible working culture, with hybrid working as standard.
