As a Senior Mechanical Officer in our University Hospital Wishaw Estates team, you’ll take the lead on the hospital’s mechanical engineering services, ensuring every system operates safely, efficiently, and in line with statutory requirements. From maintaining essential engineering systems to ensuring compliance and supporting future planning, your expertise will have a direct positive impact on the hospital’s long-term resilience and the wellbeing of everyone who relies on it. What you’ll do as a Senior Mechanical Officer You’ll be entrusted to: Lead on specialist mechanical service contracts to meet statutory, mandatory, and contractual requirements. Oversee the planned preventative maintenance schedule, ensuring all tasks are completed to a high standard. Implement and uphold procedures within our Quality Assurance and Health and Safety Policies. Prepare and review maintenance procedures to minimise downtime and improve service reliability. Supervise and validate mechanical compliance and maintenance activities, ensuring accurate records and follow-up actions. Support the delivery of minor new works, specifications, and updates to technical documentation and drawings. Participate in contingency planning and provide technical input into capital schemes. Deputise for Estates Management when required and contribute to key Estates working groups. Coordinate shift resources and complete performance reviews to support colleague growth. Compile monthly performance data and prepare critical plant reporting. Does this sound like you? You’ll be a great fit for this role if you have… Mechanical qualifications, ideally gained within a hospital environment. Previous Authorised Person (AP) experience for Medical Gas and Pressure Systems. Strong knowledge of hospital mechanical systems, including sterilizers and washers. Experience using Computer-Aided Facilities Management (CAFM) systems. The ability to write clear technical reports, along with good IT skills. The flexibility to participate in on-call duties and attend site within 30 minutes when required. Vetting and checks This role requires membership of the PVG Scheme, which involves a detailed check of spent and unspent convictions and other relevant information to ensure safeguarding compliance. You will also complete an Occupational Health Questionnaire so we can provide any necessary support to help you carry out your responsibilities.
