Rotational Occupational Therapist

Hull University Teaching Hospitals are seeking to recruit a band 5 Occupational Therapist on a Fixed Term Contract to join our Occupational Therapy Rotation.
The post holders will work alongside a multi‑disciplinary team to support the assessment and treatment of patients in various clinical areas on our rotation, including Medicine, Respiratory, Trauma Orthopaedics, Major Trauma, Stroke & Neurology, Oncology, and No Criteria to Reside Unit. As an Occupational Therapist you will have direct input into the assessment, treatment and reablement of acute care patients, delivering evidence‑based interventions to facilitate recovery, promote well‑being and optimise independent functioning across all life areas.
We are seeking people who can adapt to a changing environment and work well in a team. You will be expected to be an active member of the multi‑disciplinary team and build social networks in partnership with other agencies to address immediate needs.
Current or pending professional registration (HCPC) is required, so applicants must hold (or be awaiting) a Degree or Diploma in Occupational Therapy. This role is ideal for new graduates taking their first step into professional life.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will be self‑motivated and aspirational, able to assess in an effective and timely manner in a rapid‑paced environment. Confidence in enabling patients in positive risk‑taking, personalised care, assessment of capacity, manual handling, functional assessments, and knowledge of SAFER principles will be enhanced and nurtured within this role.
Rotations across clinical areas occur approximately every 6 months to enable postholders to develop and consolidate clinical skills. You will receive regular support and supervision to promote and nurture your development, and our organisation has a well‑established AHP preceptorship programme essential for newly qualified therapists settling into their first role.

Person Specification
Education / Qualifications
* Occupational Therapy Degree / Diploma in Occupational Therapy (or pending)
* HCPC Registration – or registration applied for
* Accredited wheelchair prescriber (optional)
* Completion of recognized student educator course from a UK learning institution
* Driver's licence or demonstrable ability to transport self independently in the community
Knowledge & Experience
* Experience (through undergraduate placements or post‑graduate employment) applying occupational therapy knowledge and skills in clinical settings.
* Knowledge of key concepts of Occupational Therapy models of practice.
* Ability to demonstrate and discuss Occupational Therapy process in UK‑based clinical settings.
* Ability to analyse, select and apply appropriate assessment and treatments using a range of modalities, illustrated by undergraduate placement or employment experience.
* Evidence of continuing professional development.
* UK‑based occupational therapy undergraduate placement or employment experience.
* Use of reflective practice for personal development.
* Contribution to the development of students and staff.
Communication and Interpersonal Skills
* Shows desire and capability to develop in line with competencies associated with the role.
* Able to work on own initiative and as part of a team.
