ASTON'S Bakehouse is an established Organic Bakery with a long heritage of Organic Food Production and Certified by the BDAA (Demeter).
The Bakery has 2 Flour Mills that produces flour from locally grown grain by Stone Milling Heritage and Traditional Grains.
We have now reached the position where we wish to move the business to another level. With this in mind we seek a dynamical, progressive Hands On Head Baker to help achieve this. Since 1983 we have been pioneering Organic and Sourdough Breads as well as bringing Pastries, Cakes and Savoury goods within the Organic field.
You will have a strong knowledge of Artisanal Baking of Bread, Cakes and Savouries.
We are looking for an experienced and passionate Head Baker to lead our baking team and oversee all aspects of our bakery operations. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of baking techniques, a creative flair for developing new recipes, and strong leadership skills to manage and inspire a team of bakers. As the Head Baker, you will be responsible for ensuring the highest quality of baked goods, maintaining a clean and efficient Bakery and meeting production targets. You will also be involved in inventory management, cost control, and ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations. This role requires a hands-on approach, excellent organizational skills, and the ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment. Responsibilities.
* Oversee and carry out daily baking operations and ensure the production of high-quality baked goods.
* Develop and test new recipes to expand the bakery's product offerings.
* Manage and train a team of bakers, ensuring adherence to recipes and quality standards.
* Monitor inventory levels and order supplies as needed.
* Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations in the kitchen.
* Maintain a clean and organized work environment.
* Coordinate with other departments to meet production targets and deadlines.
* Implement cost control measures to minimize waste and maximize profitability.
* Conduct regular quality checks on finished products.
* Handle customer inquiries and special orders.
* Stay updated on industry trends and incorporate new techniques and ingredients.
* Schedule staff shifts and manage time-off requests.
* Collaborate with the marketing team to promote new products.
* Ensure proper maintenance and operation of baking equipment.
* Resolve any issues or conflicts within the baking team.
Requirements
* Proven experience as a Head Baker or in a similar role.
* In-depth knowledge of baking techniques and ingredients.
* Strong leadership and team management skills.
* Excellent organizational and time management abilities.
* Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
* Creative and innovative mindset for developing new recipes.
* Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
* Good communication and interpersonal skills.
* Knowledge of health and safety regulations in a kitchen environment.
* Ability to lift heavy bags of flour and other baking supplies.
* Flexibility to work early mornings, weekends, and holidays.
* Proficiency in using baking equipment and tools.
* Basic computer skills for inventory management and scheduling.
* Formal training or certification in baking is a plus.
* Passion for baking and a positive attitude.
In return we can offer you a salary of up to £45,000 per annum with 28 days holiday a Year. A pension scheme is in operation.
The Bakery is in operation baking Monday to Saturday but generally over 5 days weekly. Ample scope for overtime.
