Overview
We are currently recruiting for an experienced Test Engineer to support engine testing and development activities within a high‑performance engineering environment based in Warwick.
This is a hands‑on role working with multicylinder combustion engines, supporting performance, emissions, durability, and calibration testing across multiple test rigs and development programmes.
Key Responsibilities
* Plan, set up, and run engine tests covering performance, combustion, emissions, and durability
* Operate and maintain engine testbeds, ensuring daily readiness and safe operation
* Configure and monitor test cell systems including fuel, air, cooling, lubrication, and control systems
* Work with tools and software such as AVL PUMA, ETAS INCA, AVL CAMEO, and Indicom
* Install and validate instrumentation (pressure sensors, thermocouples, emissions equipment, flow meters, etc.)
* Conduct combustion analysis including heat release, knock detection, and variation studies
* Process and analyse test data, producing clear technical reports and documentation
* Troubleshoot rig, hardware, and measurement issues in a timely manner
* Ensure all testing is carried out safely in line with high‑risk engine test cell procedures
* Support continuous improvement of test methods, hardware, and measurement systems
* Experience testing combustion engines and strong understanding of IC engine principles (combustion, air handling, fuelling, turbocharging, emissions, thermodynamics)
* Hands‑on experience with engine testbeds, including installation, setup, operation, and troubleshooting
* Experience with test automation and calibration tools such as AVL PUMA, ETAS INCA, AVL CAMEO, and Indicom
* Strong understanding of instrumentation set up and validation (pressure, temperature, fuel flow, emissions systems)
* Ability to analyse combustion data and interpret pressure traces and heat release results
* Experience handling large datasets and producing clear technical reports
* Strong understanding of structured test processes, quality standards, and engineering procedures
* Single‑cylinder research engine (SCRE) experience
* Emissions systems knowledge (FTIR, CLD, FID, PN, PM)
* Experience with calibration, turbocharging, EGR, and boost systems
* Exposure to root cause analysis and problem‑solving tools
* General mechanical or system testing experience
Personal Profile
* Methodical and disciplined approach to testing and data handling
* Strong ownership of testbed readiness and daily operations
* Safety‑focused with strong awareness of procedures and risk management
* Strong communicator and team collaborator
* Analytical mindset with strong problem‑solving ability
* Good organisational skills managing multiple test activities
* Proactive approach to improving test methods and rig performance
* Comfortable working in a fast‑paced, technical test environment
