Primary Purpose
Directs and manages the campus Section 504 Program. Ensures campus Section 504 procedures comply with state and federal laws, codes, and regulations related to Section 504 and related disabilities. Ensures Section 504 students receive FAPE.
Qualifications
Education/Certification: Bachelors degree
Special Knowledge/Skills
* Knowledge of current laws, regulations, and guidelines related to disability discrimination in public schools, including Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, as well as rules and guidelines adopted by the U.S. Department of Education’s Office for Civil Rights (OCR)
* Ability to work effectively with campus-based staff to coordinate appropriate accommodations and services to ensure Section 504 students receive due process and FAPE
* Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing
* Strong organization skills and ability to meet strict timelines
* Skill in interpreting data and reports, and using the analysis to improve student achievement
* Skill in working with computer tools, including but not limited to email, internet, word processing, and spreadsheets
* Skill in working in collaborative team-based environments
Experience
* Three years of experience as a classroom teacher
* Three years of experience in a campus and/or district leadership role
Major Responsibilities and Duties
* Coordinate and monitor Section 504 services on each campus and ensure students receive due process and FAPE.
* Schedule and facilitate three-year reevaluations and annual Section 504 meetings for the campus.
* Ensure Section 504 students' state assessment designated supports are current and students meet eligibility requirements.
* Disseminate Section 504 student service plans to staff that list 504 accommodations.
* Ensure campus staff implements students' Section 504 plans and documents implementation.
* Assist campus staff and parents in understanding the Section 504 process and requirements by providing necessary training.
* Coordinate Section 504 evaluations with the campus SAT and ensure proper procedures are followed for initial evaluations and reevaluations.
* Coordinate FIEE paperwork for Section 504 students referred to special education.
* Establish and maintain a professional relationship and open communication with principals, teachers, staff, parents, and community members.
* Perform other duties as assigned.
Working Conditions
Prolonged use of a computer; position regularly requires work outside the normal work day/week; must be able to push, pull, lift, and/or carry at least 30 pounds; frequent in-district travel.
