This is a 10 PA locum appointment for a Paediatric General Surgery Consultant, with special interests in Colorectal. This post will be available from August 2025 for a period of 6 months.
This post will deliver 10 PAs supporting the Paediatric General Surgical team (Mr Sutcliffe and Mr Parsons).
The post will be based at Leeds General Infirmary.
The successful applicant should hold accreditation in FRCS (Paediatric surgery) or equivalent and should be on the Specialist Register or within six months of being admitted to the Register for trainees if currently in a training programme within the UK, or have references which have been authorised by the Deputy Medical Director and Clinical Director.
Applicants should have established skills in Paediatric surgery. Excellent communication and teamwork skills, a strong commitment to teaching and service development are essential.

Main duties of the job
* Deliver care to patients at Leeds Children's Hospital, Leeds General Infirmary, including outpatient clinics at Airedale General Hospital and St Luke's Hospital in Bradford.
* Supervise patients and care for in-patients.
* Joint care of gastroenterology and colorectal patients.
* Contribute to multidisciplinary team meetings.
* Participate in teamwork with Clinical Nurse Specialists, Physicians, and Surgeons.
* Perform theatre sessions.
* Link with consultant colleagues in other relevant site specialist teams within the Children's Hospital and across the Trust.
* Work with colleagues in General Paediatric Surgery to deliver acute on-call duties (currently 1 in 9), including out-of-hours cover and ward rounds.
* Contribute to research, teaching, and service development. Facilitate and contribute to ongoing clinical research programs.

Job responsibilities
The job plan will be reviewed annually, with potential revisions. There may be interim reviews if duties or responsibilities change significantly.
Proposed Job Plan: 10 PAs, with 8.5 PAs of direct clinical care (DCC) and 1.5 PAs of supporting professional activities (SPA). The exact timetable will be negotiated with the successful candidate.
Indicative weekly timetable includes ward rounds, clinics, MDT meetings, theatre sessions, admin, and teaching activities, with specific activities and their durations listed.
Person Specification
Experience
* Completed a recognised training programme in Paediatric surgery.
* Experience in colorectal paediatric surgery.
* Demonstrated high-level clinical competence in paediatric surgery and relevant subspecialty training.
* Evidence of career progression and research capability.
* Additional training or fellowship in paediatric colorectal surgery.
* Experience in multidisciplinary teamwork within colorectal paediatric surgery.
* Supervision of research and publications in the field.
Qualifications
* MB BS or equivalent.
* Up-to-date and fit to practise safely.
* Higher degree (MD/PhD) relevant to the subspecialty.
* GMC Specialist registration or within 6 months of obtaining it.
