Senior Nursing Assistant

Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust

An opportunity has arisen for a senior care support worker to work at the Day Hospital, Buccleuch Lodge.

Our primary focus is care of the Elderly and we provide various clinics including:

* Movement and Disorder Clinic
* Parkinsons Clinic (from the point of diagnosis until end stage progression of the disease)
* Bone Health Clinic (offering treatments for Osteoporosis)
* Falls and Balance Clinic
* Syncope Clinic

You will after training need to be able to prioritise patient care and maintain a high standard of nursing care whilst responding sensitively to the needs of our patients.

Good communication skills and the ability to work with the wider MDT are essential.


Main duties of the job

* Welcome and orientate patients and visitors to the department
* Perform clinical tasks such as blood pressure, temperatures, pulse and oxygen saturation monitoring.
* To provide a phlebotomy and cannulation service
* To undertakes ECG's, Bladder scans, MOCA tests, Active stand blood pressure monitoring
* Undertake clerical duties as directed by a registered member of staff
* Inputting patient information onto electronic database / HIVE
* To maintain stock levels and ensure stock rotation
* To ensure clean and tidy work place environment

Person Specification


Qualifications

* Completed the National Care Certificate if relevant
* Holds a level 3 Vocational Qualification (e.g. NVQ or Apprenticeship) in clinical health care OR able to demonstrate equivalent knowledge, skill and competency to undertake band 3 clinical skills (described in JD)
* Specialty specific training and evidence of competencies being achieved and continued development


Experience

* Experience working in a healthcare organisation/setting, undertaking a wide range of clinical commitments.
* Knowledge of Infection Control & Safeguarding processes
* Experience of working with the multidisciplinary team.
* Experience of caring for a group of patients.
* Experience of dealing with patient/relative complaints as appropriate.
* Experience in supporting Quality Improvement audits and research and development activities.
* Experience of working in more than one speciality within a health care environment.


Knowledge

* Able to apply knowledge of policies, procedures, legislation and professional standards of practice


Skills

* Able to undertake patient's vital signs
* Able to complete ECG's
* Able to complete Venepuncture and Cannulation
* Computer Skills
