Headquartered in the United Kingdom, INTEC also operates offices in Germany, Türkiye, Australia, New Zealand, Azerbaijan, Romania, and Mauritius, with plans for further expansion.
Summary: We are seeking a technically proficient BESS Design Engineer to support the end-to-end EPC delivery of utility-scale Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) projects. This role involves not only system design and performance optimization, but also collaboration across engineering, procurement, and construction teams to ensure designs are practical, cost-effective, and aligned with execution timelines. You will work on everything from feasibility through to construction drawings and commissioning support—bridging the gap between design intent and real-world project delivery.
Key Responsibilities:
* Develop BESS system designs optimized for EPC constructability, including layout drawings, integration schematics, and BoP configurations.
* Specify battery technologies, inverters, protection systems, and associated power electronics for containerized or modular BESS installations.
* Perform load flow, short-circuit, and system performance simulations to validate BESS system architecture.
* Collaborate with electrical, civil, and SCADA teams to integrate designs into overall plant infrastructure and control frameworks.
* Work with procurement and construction teams to ensure technical packages align with vendor offerings and site execution plans.
* Stay current with UK and international codes, such as G99, BS EN 61960, and IEC standards applicable to BESS and electrical systems.
* Participate in technical reviews with DNOs, suppliers, and subcontractors to validate interface points and design assumptions.
* Conduct design risk assessments and value engineering activities to enhance system reliability and reduce lifecycle costs.
* Support project managers in EPC tendering, cost estimates, and design documentation for client and permit submissions.
* Provide engineering support during construction and commissioning phases to resolve design issues or adapt to site conditions.
Qualifications
* Bachelor's or higher degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems, Energy Engineering, or a related discipline.
* Demonstrable experience in BESS engineering, ideally within EPC or turnkey project environments.
* Knowledge of BESS chemistries (e.g., LFP, NMC), inverter systems, HVAC, fire suppression, and containerized solutions.
* Experience working on multi-MW grid-tied renewable or hybrid projects, preferably in the UK market.
* Proficient in electrical simulation and design tools (e.g., DIgSILENT, ETAP, AutoCAD Electrical).
* Strong understanding of system grounding, fault current management, and battery dispatch strategy.
* Excellent communication and technical coordination skills within cross-functional engineering teams.
* Right to work in the UK without restriction.
