Deputy Head Teacher

We are seeking a dedicated and experienced leader to join our team, someone who is committed to upholding and actively promoting our Christian ethos. While experience within a Church of England school is not essential, we are looking for a candidate who shares our passion for providing an inclusive, values-driven education where every child is nurtured and encouraged to achieve their fullest potential.

This role requires a leader with:

4. The skills to support the Headteacher in delivering strategic goals and raising standards across the school.

As Deputy Headteacher, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of our school, ensuring that our vision, values, and ethos are embedded in every aspect of school life. This is an opportunity to work closely with a dedicated team of staff, supportive families, and an engaged community to build on our successes and continue to serve our pupils with humility, gentleness, and compassion.

Duties and Responsibilities

Teaching

5. Planning, preparation, evaluation, modification of individual teaching processes according to the National Curriculum, in line with the school's policies.
6. Meeting the varied needs of individual pupils.
7. Selecting appropriate resources and making these accessible to pupils.
8. Maintaining regular records of individuals' experience and achievement and reporting to parents as required.
9. Work in partnership with the teachers to ensure that standards, expectations and progress remains at the forefront of all that is done.
10. Begin to develop coaching partnerships across the school to promote excellence in teaching and learning.
11. Be a ‘leading learner’ in the school; to initiate new ideas and encourage developments in the curriculum and teaching methods with particular reference to the further embedding of the Growth Mindset initiatives.

Curriculum

12. Construct, develop, monitor and review, with the Headteacher, the specific aspects of curriculum delegated by the Headteacher.
13. In partnership with the Assistant Headteachers, have an overview of the Quality of Education, ensuring all subjects under this umbrella are developed across the school.
14. In partnership with the Assistant Headteachers, continue to lead a review of the whole school curriculum to develop the learning environment and teaching methods to secure more effective, creative, purposeful and enjoyable learning across the whole school with particular reference to the Growth Mindset initiatives.
15. Establish and manage strategic development partnerships with other schools to help with developing the creative curriculum, extending opportunities for learners and sharing ideas and practice to promote excellence in teaching and learning.

Assessment

16. Have an effective understanding of assessment procedures, be able to lead on this as an area for development within the Senior Leadership Team and to monitor the use of assessment, record keeping, reporting, tracking and target setting to ensure pupil progress.

School Policies

17. Assist the Headteacher and Assistant Headteachers to formulate School policies and to devise strategies for their implementation in accordance with the School’s Mission Statement, the requirements of the DfE, LA and the Board of Governors.

Qualifications and Experience:

18. Degree and Qualified Teacher Status
19. NPQH or working towards this or evidence of other successful professional study
20. Proven commitment to continued professional development
21. Evidence of dynamic and inspirational leadership in a primary school

Skills and Knowledge:

22. Demonstrate a commitment to maintaining the Christian ethos of the school
23. Understand the legal framework within which a church school operates, including national policy, curriculum developments, the OFSTED inspection framework and Safeguarding practices and procedures
24. Ability to identify and evaluate data critical to the assessment of the school’s performance and take appropriate action in the best interests of the school
25. Experience of effective financial planning, budgetary management and the use of resources to achieve the school’s objectives
26. Understanding of the principles of excellence in teaching, learning and assessment
27. Ability to maintain high levels of behaviour to support children’s learning and social and emotional development
28. Knowledge and understanding of how to provide a broad and balanced education and the widest range of opportunities for ALL pupils to enable them to achieve their full potential

Leadership Skills:

29. Ability to demonstrate commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, ensuring that all members of the school community share that commitment
30. Experience and ability to develop and communicate a clear strategic vision for the future development of the school in consultation with other stakeholders
31. Experience of delivering the principles and strategies of whole school improvement by initiating, implementing and evaluating change and development
32. Ability to manage, motivate and support individuals and teams effectively showing commitment to accountability for pupil outcomes - this will include Performance Management of staff
33. Ability to build and maintain effective relationships with parents, carers, partners, and the community

Personal Qualities:

34. High expectations of yourself and the staff team
35. Strong presentation in public and private speaking and writing skills
36. Excellent communicator with effective listening skills
37. Courage and ability to tackle difficult issues, to avoid defensiveness and to convey outcomes clearly and sensitively

The successful candidate will be subject to enhanced clearance through the Disclosure and Barring Service and employment will be subject to references.
