Start: 17th November 2025 | Duration: 18 months | Inside IR35
We’re supporting a long-term infrastructure project requiring an experienced Highway Inspector to oversee the construction of specific highway assets across several key development areas in Cambridgeshire.
This part-time contract (16 hours per week, up to 2 days/week) focuses on sections of the A428 Development Consent Order (DCO) that will transfer to the local authority. You’ll play a vital role in advocating for the council’s long-term interests, ensuring works align with specifications and quality standards.
Your responsibilities will include:
*
Inspecting overbridges and junctions (not the mainline) across sites such as Potton Road, Cambridge Road, Toesland Road, Eltisley, and Caxton Gibbet.
*
Conducting spot checks on construction activity, reviewing testing data, verifying material tickets, and escalating deviations from approved designs.
*
Using a site-based vehicle to attend field inspections, reporting into the project sponsor and on-site supervisor.
*
Collaborating with developers and contractors to ensure the infrastructure is built to adoption-ready standards and minimises long-term maintenance risk.
*
Recording inspection data and contributing to adoption documentation and certification processes.
Requirements:
*
Civil Engineering or Construction background with BTEC Level 3 or equivalent (HNC/HND desirable).
*
Valid Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS) card.
*
Solid knowledge of highway construction specifications and maintenance methods.
*
Strong technical judgement and confidence to provide onsite direction and resolve build-related issues.
*
Ability to travel across multiple construction sites within Cambridgeshire.
*
Experience working on major infrastructure projects, ideally involving DCOs or Section 278/38 schemes.
This is a fantastic opportunity to contribute to the quality assurance of a high-profile infrastructure programme with flexible scheduling. Applicants must be willing to work 2 full days or spread hours across the week.
