Overview
As a Landlord Support Officer, you will work with accommodation providers and the citizens of Leeds to resolve tenancy‑related issues, support compliance with the Renters’ Rights Act (RRA) and wider housing legislation, and prevent homelessness wherever possible. You will work directly with customers, undertaking homelessness assessments and identifying creative and practical solutions to prevent homelessness for households experiencing tenancy‑related difficulties.
About the Role
The role sits within the Leeds Housing Options Tenancy Support Team and focuses on preventing and relieving homelessness, reducing reliance on temporary accommodation, and supporting tenancy sustainment through early intervention and creative problem‑solving. The post holder will work directly with customers to assess housing need, explore prevention options, and resolve tenancy issues before they escalated. Close collaboration with Private Sector Housing and other partners is essential.
Responsibilities
* Identify prevention and early intervention opportunities.
* Implement, record, monitor and distribute effective prevention work with the Private Rented Scheme.
* Build and maintain strong relationships with landlords.
* Collaborate with DWP and Leeds Benefit Service to enhance landlord support.
* Investigate and resolve financial claims against the scheme.
* Oversee an early intervention programme for landlords pre‑eviction.
* Achieve performance targets around tenancy sustainment.
* Manage tenancy issues and coordinate with other agencies to create safe, sustainable tenancies.
* Supervise and manage staff as required.
* Provide advice and support to customers and landlords in line with the Homelessness Reduction Act.
* Ensure safeguarding procedures are followed.
* Promote landlord and tenant relationships through various approaches.
* Work with partner services, elected members and local communities to deliver and improve services.
* Adhere to Council policies, data protection, financial regulations and health and safety.
* Contribute to policy and strategy development in line with legislation and best practice.
* Support equality and diversity in employment and service delivery.
* Deliver the priorities, values and objectives of Leeds City Council.
* Perform any other duties within the spirit of the post as required.
