Contracts Manager

Overview
An established contractor in the infrastructure and utilities sector is seeking an experienced Contracts Manager to support the delivery of major construction projects. The successful candidate will work closely with project leadership to manage the main construction contract, ensuring compliance with time, cost, quality, and safety obligations.
This position involves oversight of both main and sub-contracts, coordination of project communications, negotiation of variations, and proactive management of contractual risk and reporting. Experience administering NEC and IChemE contracts, including through digital tools such as CEMAR, is essential.
Key Responsibilities
* Analyse main contract documents and schedules, ensuring all notice, time, and procedural requirements are fully understood and implemented.
* Advise the project team on contractual constraints and conditions; prepare clear documentation (such as contract manuals) to support understanding of critical mechanisms.
* Identify and manage appropriate risk transfer mechanisms to subcontractors and insurers.
* Enforce the contract’s notification regime, protecting the company’s commercial position throughout the project lifecycle.
* Prepare and substantiate variations, extensions of time, and compensation event submissions, liaising with the wider team prior to client submission.
* Develop and submit contractual claims and other entitlement documentation in accordance with contract provisions.
* Monitor exposure to liquidated damages and support the legal and project teams in interpreting contractual terms.
Skills & Experience
* Degree in Civil, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering, or Quantity Surveying.
* 4–7 years’ experience managing complex construction contracts within the UK.
* Demonstrated experience with NEC and IChemE forms of contract.
* Proficiency with MS Office and the CEMAR portal.
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
* Strong analytical, organisational, and problem-solving abilities.
* Proven ability to manage stakeholder relationships across multiple functions while working to strict contractual deadlines.
