Junior Locally Employed Doctor in Critical Care Medicine The closing date is 26 June 2026
The appointee will work across the Intensive Care Unit, gaining clinical experience that reflects their training ambitions and needs. The role combines working alongside and supporting consultant and trainee colleagues in Critical Care while providing out‑of‑hours resident cover on a full‑shift, EWTD‑compliant rota. This post is suitable for individuals seeking higher experience in Intensive Care Medicine to develop their skills.
Main duties of the job Successful doctors will be appointed to a full‑shift, EWTD‑compliant rota arranged over an average 7‑week cycle in accordance with a rota template. The shift pattern will include out‑of‑hours resident coverage. Doctors will work across the ICU, supporting consultants and trainees, and will receive weekly bleep‑free educational time, face‑to‑face consultant‑led teaching, simulation scenarios, critical appraisal of key papers, and access to electronic learning resources. Opportunities exist to participate in department audit, teaching, and research programmes.
Person Specification Qualifications & Training
Primary Medical Degree
Minimum 4 months experience in intensive care medicine
Advanced Life Support
Good breadth and depth clinical knowledge of Critical Care appropriate to level medical training
Primary FRCA (or equivalent)
Teaching/Audit
Experience of Audit
Teaching of medical students
Other Requirements
Full registration (or eligible for full registration) with the General Medical Council
Academic Achievements
Distinctions or Prizes during undergraduate training
