Overview
HORTICULTURAL MANAGER
This role is in the independent sector, spanning responsibilities within the Plant Area, including Purchasing, Seasonal Changes, Merchandising, and the management and development of the team and the plant area.
Responsibilities
* Grow the plant sales element of the business and increase turnover and profitability of the plant sales through good practice in ordering, pricing, displays and customer service.
* Work as part of the Company team formulating and implementing plans under management supervision to drive the business forward.
* Develop a team of appropriate numbers, quality and experience to increase sales and profitability.
* Purchase stock in the correct quantities for the Plant Area/Garden Centre in line with company policy and budgets.
* Negotiate price levels and discounts with plant suppliers on a regular basis.
* Monitor the standard of plant stock purchased to ensure that the company's quality standards are maintained.
* Assist the Garden Centre Manager in maintaining the Company's standard of customer service and in maintaining a safe environment for customers and staff, including safety checks and Health and Safety compliance.
* Contribute to an efficient communication system to keep staff informed of changes affecting service, stock, or working arrangements.
* Maintain the highest standards of cleanliness in the internal and external areas of the Garden Centre.
* Assist in ensuring the efficiency of the administration system to deal with purchase notes, delivery notes, invoices and other documentation and become proficient in OpSuite ordering and stock taking systems.
* Assist in responsibility for a secure cash handling system and ensure procedures to maintain site security are carried out by designated staff, including cashing up as part of duties.
* Ensure new plant area staff are aware of company policies and procedures during working hours.
* Undertake special projects as directed by the Manager/Managing Director.
* Maintain and improve plant displays, quality and awareness in the Centre with a view to increasing overall plant sales, margins and profitability.
* Perform any other duties as reasonably required by the Garden Centre Manager.
* Ideally you will work in a Garden Centre environment.
Qualifications and Knowledge
* Have horticultural knowledge.
* Some knowledge of purchasing.
