The Operations Division at Morgan Stanley is the front line of defense for the Firm's financial and operational well-being. It works closely with almost all departments to safeguard the Firm's reputation and franchise. Operations partners with Sales & Trading, Finance, Legal, and Technology to support and settle daily transactions, implement effective controls, develop strong client relationships, and engage with business partners to enable new structures, businesses, and markets.
Internship Details
This is a 12-month internship program.
Responsibilities
1. Client new account onboarding: Ensure that any new accounts are correctly set up in our internal system.
2. Counterparty relationship management: Ensure that incoming phone calls are always answered.
3. Business Unit assistance: Follow up and respond to BU and internal group documentation requests.
4. Project management: Follow up on enhancement calls and projects impacting our team.
5. Paper trades: Affirm any new events (new trades, unwinds, exercise of options, assignations) with clients promptly.
6. Electronic trades: Investigate and confirm DTCC or MW pending trades (new trades, unwinds, assignations, DKd trades) with clients timely.
7. Discrepancies reconciliation: Investigate and reconcile economic discrepancies promptly. Liaise with BU and internal parties to resolve disputes.
8. Chasing unexecuted confirmations: Ensure signed MS confirmations are received without mark-up to meet deadlines.
9. Broker confirmations matching: Verify and cross-check broker/client confirmations against MS risk systems before execution.
10. Daily cashflow pre-affirmation: Perform daily pre-affirmation of cashflows.
11. Settlement monitoring: Monitor settlement transactions and special arrangements.
12. Client data management: Keep client contact details updated.
13. Escalation: Daily escalation of high-risk and aged items.
14. End of day affirmation: Provide end-of-day affirmation.
Qualifications / Skills / Requirements
1. You have a minimum 2.2 honours degree or equivalent.
2. Strong interpersonal and organizational skills.
3. Ability to work in a team environment.
4. Ability to meet deadlines and work under pressure.
5. Exceptional Excel, database, and desktop skills.
6. Superior problem-solving and analytical skills, with the ability to multi-task.
7. Flexible and adaptable to change.
8. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
