37 hours Birmingham Newman University is looking for a well organised individual to join our Estates Team. Based in Bartley Green, Birmingham Newman University comprises a mixture of buildings dating from the 1960’s, as well as being responsible for the maintenance of buildings, the Estates team is committed to maintaining the grounds and pursuing a greener and more ecologically friendly estate. Over the last 10 years we have invested over £50million pound on modernising the estate, we are about to begin the next investment round, which to begin with will be a large re-landscaping scheme. We are looking for an individual who will be the first point of contact for enquiries to the department, manage the daily jobs and enquiries that come through, provide administrative support for the rest of the department including managing of diaries, and be hands on with smaller jobs. The Individual will also be a key role in liaising with contractors and suppliers, generating orders, controlling spending, and providing reports. The Post Holder will also be involved in supporting managers in maintaining compliance across the university estate. Due to these requirements, it would be beneficial for candidates to have worked in an estates and/or maintenance role before. The individual will work closely With the Director of Estates and the Estates and Facilities Manager, so will give the individual the access to confidential information and allow them to input into the wider estates agenda and policy setting. The individual will also be involved in the next estates investment rounds. We are looking for someone with great administrative skills, but who is also willing to be involved with wider estates work and be a team player across the whole estates team. We believe this role is a unique and exciting role within the university. We require someone who is proactive and able to problem solve. Applying individuals must have great administrative abilities, ability to manage an office, well organised, have a basic understanding of health and safety Legislation, and be a good communicator, for the more hands-on part of the role training will be provided. It would be beneficial for individuals to also have a basic understanding of building regulations and/or Fire Legislation, but again if not training will be provided for the correct individual.
