Job overview

The Biological Samples Coordinator will be responsible for supporting a portfolio of pediatric clinical trials from study set up to closure in accordance with the clinical trial protocol and Good Clinical Practice.

The role will involve providing comprehensive administrative support to the delivery of the portfolio including completing and submitting documents to obtain local approval; collecting, recording and maintaining data for patients on studies; co-ordination of specimen collection and distribution and organising tests and investigations.

Close collaboration with the Trial Coordinators and Data Managers with respect to trial requirements and reporting will be expected. They will work along side the Haematology/ Oncology Research nurses .


Main duties of the job

The co-ordination of study/ trial sample requirements according to a portfolio of heamatology ,neuro-oncology and oncology studies /trials .

Tracking / booking patients appointments according to study sample requirements .

Arranging for samples to be sent to researchers/ other laboratories, hospitals .

Accurate data collection and entry into case report files .

Communicating with the wider MDT, external agencies and sponsors .

Attend MDT meetings .

Work with Histopathology and other laboratories to ensure samples are registered and sent away as per trial protocol .

Person specification


Experience

* At least 2 years recent and relevant admin experience .
* Ability to identify and facilitate improvement strategies.
* Experience in Standard Operational Procedures/guidelines and their implementation
* Previous data manager/ clinical research experience
* Experience in working in a research setting.
* Previous NHS/Primary Care/Trials unit experience.


Knowledge

* Computer literate, and experience of working with Microsoft Office packages ( eg Outlook, Word, Excel and Access)
* Knowledge of ICH-GCP, or awareness of current legislation regarding research Governance principles
* Knowledge of clinical trials.
* Awareness of patient confidentiality and data protection.
* To have knowledge about the consent process, particularly in the paediatric setting


Skills

* Self-motivated and able to effectively organise and prioritise workload
* Attention to detail and data quality.
* Ability to interact well with patients, parents and carers
* Ability to work under pressure
* Ability to work on own with minimum supervision, and as part of a small specialist team.
* Ability to formulate new systems.
* Self-motivated and willing to undertake appropriate training.
* Flexible


qualification

* Good general level of education ,GCSE/O level or equivalent pass in Maths and English

Our current Mental Health Services division may be transferring the provision of its services to Birmingham and Solihull Mental Health Foundation Trust (BSMHFT). Whilst at present you are applying for a position within Birmingham Women’s and Children’s NHS Foundation should you be successful in gaining a position within Mental Health Services, your employment may in the future be transferred over to BSMHFT. Should any new information become available, you will be kept informed of this throughout your recruitment process.
