Position Details
The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation, Cumberland County Maintenance Organization, is seeking dedicated full-time CDL Equipment Operators. This role involves maintaining highway and bridge systems, especially during winter snow plowing, and working on various construction sites. Responsibilities include operating heavy machinery, performing minor repairs, conducting preventative maintenance, and maintaining detailed logs of equipment usage and maintenance. Your work directly impacts community safety and infrastructure quality, providing daily opportunities for manual labor, teamwork, and community service.
Work Schedule and Additional Information:
* Full-time employment
* Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday through Friday, with a 30-minute lunch
* Travel, overtime, and shift work required; hours may vary seasonally
* Telework: Not available for this position
* Salary: Starting salary may be non-negotiable in some cases

Qualifications and Requirements:
Minimum Experience and Training:
* Completion of the Transportation Equipment Operator Trainee Program, or
* Graduation from a Commercial Driver's License Training School, or
* An equivalent combination of experience and training
Special Requirements:
* Valid Pennsylvania Class A or B Commercial Driver's License with Air Brake Restriction (L) removed
* Valid Medical Examiner's Certificate per Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations
Conditions of Employment:
* Obtain active certification from the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation within probationary period
* Maintain necessary CDL endorsements and certifications
* Operate vehicles with manual transmissions if required
* Subject to Drug and Alcohol testing as per Federal Regulations
