We are currently looking for a lively and enthusiastic class leader to join our Story Sense team in September 2025 working within the South Hams/Torbay, Devon during term times only. This is a fantastic opportunity to be part of a child's first years, watching them learn through facilitated play with their parent or guardian.
As a class leader, you will deliver weekly 45-minute long classes from detailed lesson plans and facilitate a range of sensory activities. In return, I will ensure you have exceptional training to run the classes and ongoing support.
Job Description
This job requires someone who will go the extra mile to make each class special. You will be setting up new locations of your choice. You will need to research and secure venues on the days and times that you want to work, using a venue checklist. I am happy to assist with venues if you need support. You will be provided with a full kit on loan and will need space to store this or you will need to collect equipment from Paignton every week. You will set up and break down the equipment before and after each day of classes, along with removing any unsuitable toys for babies in between toddler and baby classes. It is essential that all of the equipment is regularly cleaned and always presented to a high standard in order to retain the reputation that Story Sense has developed. You will be required to take a register at every class to ensure accurate information is kept on those who have or have not attended sessions. You will be expected to promote the next term of classes and inform parents how and when to book. Training will be given on our booking system and how to use this to find the register.
You will also be responsible for retaining customers and promoting to a new audience in order to ensure attendance levels remain high. If class numbers drop, sessions will be forced to be cancelled. We require a minimum of 7 children per class to run. You will be given access to our social media pages where you can share photos and videos from your sessions to help other parents see what you offer.
Each class day requires 30 minutes set up time and 30 minutes pack up time at the end. You can have up to 20 minutes between classes to clean, tidy and reset.
Training
Before running your own classes, you are expected to take part in a training programme alongside me in classes already running. You will be required to attend weekly training for 4 weeks starting in June 2025, and will be running classes starting in September 2025 (either Paignton or Kingsbridge). Once you have completed 4 weeks working alongside me, you are able to run classes, set up and take down equipment to a high standard. This role will just be to run weekly classes initially. After 6 months, you would have the ability to run birthday parties and special events should you wish to add to your hours.
(Due to the nature of the role, you must be fit and healthy as the role is very physical and there can be some lifting to do when getting props and setting up.)
Hours
This role is for a freelance class leader. You are therefore able to choose your own hours and locations of work, within a certain area. I am looking for someone to take over the running of classes already established in the area. This will be Kingsbridge on a Friday.
Must have a clean driving license and access to your own car: Our sessions involve a sizable kit (although has been transported in a Kia Picanto for size reference, and therefore your own transport is essential.
DBS checked - If you don't hold a current DBS, for the right candidate, we will cover the cost of this for you.
Pay Rate:
£15 per hour (hours include set up and clear up of sessions).
