Overview
Job title: Whole-time Locum Consultant in Neuro Anaesthesia at Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

If a candidate cannot work full-time for personal reasons, consideration for the post will be discussed with the Trust in consultation with consultant colleagues. Main duties
The appointee, together with consultant colleagues, will be responsible for the provision of anaesthetic services to the Trust.
Responsibilities
1. Provide safe, evidence-based medicine.
2. Pursue continuous improvement in the quality of care.
3. Work to the PROUD values, with the patient at the heart of what we do.
4. Provide an outstanding environment for our junior doctors to train.
5. Maintain skills and update knowledge to meet the Continuing Education and Professional Development requirements of the Royal College of Anaesthetists.
6. Actively participate in the QI and audit ambitions of the Department.
7. Participate in the on-call rota at Sheffield Teaching Hospitals.
8. Be prepared to work on all sites where elective surgical work is undertaken; the majority of this work takes place at RHH and NGH. Lists will be on a single site on a given day.
9. Take responsibility for resource utilisation and participate in Directorate business planning for new developments.
10. Some flexibility within duties may be required depending on service needs.
11. Work according to the terms and conditions of the national consultant contract.

Person Specification
Qualifications
* Essential: Full Registration with the GMC with a licence to practise.
* Desirable: Name on the specialist register for relevant specialty or eligible within 6 months of interview; UK trained applicants should hold a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) or be within six months of award of CCT by interview date.
Management and administration
* Essential: Understanding of NHS management systems and structures.
Personal attributes
* Essential: Demonstrates PROUD values; good oral and written communication; English language skills suitable for medical communication as per GMC Good Medical Practice.
Clinical governance and audit
* Essential: Experience in clinical audit.
Continuous professional development
* Essential: Evidence of participation in CME/CPD in the last 12 months.
* Desirable: Maintenance of a CPD diary or portfolio.
Teaching and training
* Essential: Experience teaching medical students and resident doctors.
* Desirable: Publications in peer-reviewed journals.
Clinical experience
* Essential: Training and experience in neuroanaesthesia and critical care; recent completion of stage 3 intensive care medicine or equivalent; experience in other aspects of patient care (ICM, Pre-Op Assessment, Acute Pain, PACU).
* Desirable: SIA or advanced clinical fellowship in Neuroanaesthesia; dual CCT/FFICUM or advanced training in intensive care medicine.
