Sales and Business Development Manager – Conference Sales
SEC is one of the UK’s leading event destinations, hosting world-class conferences, exhibitions and live events on Glasgow’s waterfront. We are looking for a Sales and Business Development Manager to join the conference sales team and play a key role in driving new business and revenue growth.
This is a client-facing role focused on winning conference business, building strong relationships and converting opportunities into confirmed events. You will work in partnership with city, academic community, and industry partners to develop and deliver winning bids for international association conferences.
The successful candidate will preferably come from a sales, business development or conference/events background.
The Role
You will be responsible for generating new conference opportunities, managing a strong sales pipeline and guiding clients through the full sales journey, from first contact through to contract.
Specifically you will:
* Identify and generate new business through research, networking, outreach and industry events, building a pipeline of conference prospects.
* Travel to meet clients and attend key industry events, which may require frequent international travel
* Build strong relationships with clients across the full sales cycle, including leading site visits.
* Create tailored proposals that align with client objectives and event requirements
* Monitor market trends, competitor activity and client feedback to spot growth opportunities
* Work closely with internal teams across operations
* Track revenue targets and prepare forecasts and pipeline updates for senior colleagues
* Share market insight and client feedback to support continuous improvement
About You
You will be a proactive professional who enjoys building relationships and turning opportunities into confirmed business. You will be organised, confident with clients and comfortable working towards targets in a fast-paced environment.
We are looking for someone who brings:
* Experience in a sales or business development role, ideally within conferences, events, venues or hospitality
* A track record of meeting or exceeding revenue targets
* Confidence managing end-to-end sales processes
* Strong communication and presentation skills
* A consultative, customer-focused approach
* Good organisational skills and attention to detail
* Experience using CRM systems and Microsoft Office
* A collaborative approach and the ability to work across teams
