What's involved with this role: SITE BASED ROLED ONLY Detention Officer JM 080825 IR35: in scope £184.19 per day PAYE Working Hours: 37 per week - Shift-based (7.4-hour shifts) Shifts: Monday–Friday (8:00am–9:00pm), Saturday–Sunday (9:00am–5:00pm) Weekend Work: 1 in 3 weekends (both Saturday and Sunday) Contract Length: 6 months Location: Bedford or Oxfordshire (Kidlington) (please state preferred location) Work Environment: On-site only (no remote working) Successful candidates will need to attend 10 weeks of training at Bedford Our client is seeking dedicated and resilient Detention Officers to join their team within a secure custodial setting. This is an on-site role requiring a proactive, people-focused approach and the ability to manage sensitive and complex situations with professionalism. Key Responsibilities: Conduct face-to-face engagements with detained individuals, including: Induction meetings, service of paperwork, and follow-ups Modern Slavery assessments Asylum screening interviews Discuss voluntary return options and build tailored return plans Clearly explain the consequences of non-compliance with immigration procedures Maintain regular case updates and manage a personal caseload Accurately record all interactions using internal IT systems Identify and escalate any indicators of vulnerability in line with policy Attend meetings such as case conferences, ACDT reviews, and immigration surgeries Collaborate closely with the Welfare Office to address resident concerns Conduct remote asylum screening interviews as needed Provide supervision and support to Administrative Officer (AO) Support staff Carry out administrative tasks including: Managing arrival and departure lists Monitoring inboxes and e-fax communications Handling phone, email, and in-person queries Escalate operational or contractual issues as required Contribute to internal management reporting Skills & Experience Required: Excellent interpersonal and verbal communication skills Strong organisational skills, confidence, and resilience High level of integrity with the ability to remain calm under pressure Capable of handling challenging and sensitive situations appropriately Comfortable working both face-to-face and in administrative roles Additional Requirements: This is a mandatory on-site role – remote work is not available Must hold or be willing to undergo Personal Safety Level 2 (SPEAR) training (provided in-house) Must be able and willing to work in a secure, custodial environment Flexibility with working hours, including regular weekend shifts, is essential We will also add your details to our mail out lists.
