As part of Historic Environment Scotland's trainee programme, this traineeship offers a range of training opportunities. Working in a small architectural team, the trainee will develop a skillset spanning architectural design, conservation and other professional competencies.
Key responsibilities, duties and objectives
This Architectural Assistant Trainee role supports the National Investment Projects Team (of architects and architectural technologists) through practical experience, academic training and engagement with other trainee roles within HES. The current work of the team includes feasibility studies and option appraisals for our ‘Properties in Care’ across the HES Estate, as well as scoping, design and delivery of projects focused on skills development and climate action/decarbonisation.
* Strong interest in architectural design within the historic environment
* Ability to demonstrate strong design skills through good communication and presentation techniques
* Competent in the use of office-based software: Microsoft Office Suite
* Experience in the use of Computer Aided Design (CAD) and visualisation software: AutoCAD, SketchUp, Adobe Creative Suite
* Competent in use of Building Information Modelling (BIM) software: e.g. Revit
* An understanding of and interest in climate change and sustainable practices
* Bachelor of Architecture degree / ARB Part 1 Accreditation (or equivalent recognised European or International Qualification)
