Procurement Professional – Quantity Surveyor
BAE Systems | Barrow-in-Furness | 24-Month Contract
1. Rate: £41.41 PAYE / £55.82 Umbrella (Inside IR35)
2. Hours: 37 per week
3. Location: Barrow-in-Furness (3–5 days onsite)
We’re supporting BAE Systems in the recruitment of a Procurement Professional (Quantity Surveyor) to join their Supply Chain team on a long-term contract. This role will play a key part in managing commercial aspects of major subcontracts, ensuring robust cost control, risk management, and contract performance across the project lifecycle.
The Role: You’ll operate within the Procurement & Supply Chain function, supporting the delivery of complex programmes through effective subcontract and commercial management. This includes overseeing cost analysis, managing contract changes, and ensuring best value outcomes across assigned work packages.
Key Responsibilities:
4. Support or lead subcontracting and outsourcing decisions, including ongoing cost analysis and contract management
5. Manage commercial risks and opportunities, including ownership of the final account process
6. Maintain robust commercial audit trails and implement risk mitigation activities
7. Plan and deliver work packages aligned to the Major Subcontract Process, capturing lessons learned
8. Control and manage contract changes in line with internal procedures
9. Support development of procurement strategies and work package structures to achieve best value
10. Carry out market analysis, benchmarking and feasibility assessments to understand cost drivers
11. Lead or contribute to supplier negotiations and stakeholder engagement
12. Manage measure and re-measure activities, reporting progress and spend profiles
13. Ensure continuity of supply through effective procurement planning and lifecycle management
14. Support lifecycle costing exercises and cross-functional initiatives
What We’re Looking For
15. Experience in quantity surveying and commercial management, ideally within complex engineering or infrastructure environments
16. Strong understanding of contract management, cost control, and risk mitigation
17. Ability to interpret contractual terms and manage variations effectively
18. Experience working with suppliers and driving effective contractor performance
19. Strong stakeholder engagement and negotiation skills
20. Awareness of cost drivers across materials, labour, and project delivery
Desirable
21. Degree in Quantity Surveying or related discipline (preferred)
22. Professional certifications such as APMP or Risk Certification (Level 1+) are beneficial
