Job overview
We seek a self-motivated, flexible individual to join our Pathology Reception team. You should work well under pressure, be a team player, and possess good interpersonal skills, a positive attitude, and adaptability.
The role involves reception of people and samples, sample sorting, data entry, and communication of reports. Good telephone manners, communication skills, clear handwriting, and understanding of medical terminology are essential. Participation in the extended weekday, weekend, and bank holiday rotas is expected.
Main duties of the job
This is a full-time role with shifts from 9:00 to 17:30, with potential extension to 08:00-19:00 upon competency. Weekend work may be available after training.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Main Duties and Responsibilities
* Receive, sort, and process clinical samples, resolving issues like leaks or labeling errors.
* Accurately input data into computer systems for patient information and investigations.
* Maintain accuracy during data entry and labeling.
* Follow SOPs at all times.
* Understand analytical work and prioritize requests accordingly.
* Judge sample suitability and take appropriate action.
* Adhere to systems for phoning results.
* Answer calls on the pathology enquiry line, providing results and advice within competency.
* Handle requests for supplementary tests, contacting requestors about issues.
Supervisory & management
* Participate in training and reviews.
* Assist with overtime when competent.
* Book leave per policy.
* Report absences and understand trust policies.
* Act as first point of contact within pathology, maintaining confidentiality.
* Participate in staff questionnaires and meetings.
* Communicate with patients and staff about appointments and procedures.
* Dispatch pathology reports accurately.
* Collaborate with team members for resource efficiency.
Education & training
* Support training of junior staff.
* Maintain personal development.
* Complete NVQ Level 2 or equivalent in pathology support.
* Attend training courses and mandatory sessions.
Information management & technology
* Work within SOPs to ensure data quality.
* Attend training on display screen equipment and hardware.
* Use laboratory systems according to protocols.
* Ensure confidentiality and data security.
* Use resources efficiently and report low supplies.
Clinical audit and quality management
* Assist with audit data collection.
* Be aware of documentation within the lab.
Health & safety
* Follow health and safety policies, recognize hazards, and report issues.
* Apply training on PPE, manual handling, fire safety, and COSHH.
* Maintain awareness of emergency procedures and waste policies.
* Report incidents appropriately.
Other duties
* Perform other duties as delegated.
