The Role

The Communications & Engagement Officer will play an active and important role as part of the Communications Team, supporting the delivery of effective and creative communications aligned to the strategic objectives of the National Park Authority.

Working closely with the Media & Communications Manager, the post holder will help bring the work of the National Park Authority to life by proactively identifying compelling stories and creating engaging content that connects with a range of target audiences across press, digital and social platforms.

Responsibilities


* Work with the Media & Campaigns Manager to proactively identify, shape and deliver compelling stories that raise the profile of the National Park Authority and resonate with key audiences.
* Research, write and produce a wide range of content, from press releases, briefings and articles to social posts and web copy - ensuring consistency in tone, accuracy and messaging across platforms.
* Monitor media and environmental news, trends and opportunities to help inform timely and relevant communications that strengthen our visibility and impact.
* Support media handling, including drafting responses, quotes and pitches, and responding to enquiries from journalists, stakeholders and members of the public.
* Provide administrative support to the team, including maintaining media and influencer contact lists, reviewing press coverage, and managing image and content libraries.
* Assist with social media community management, including responding to comments and messages, identifying community opportunities, and helping produce high-quality content in collaboration with our Creative Content Coordinator.
* Support the Digital Communications Manager in keeping our website and internal communications platform up to date with engaging, relevant and accessible content.
* Contribute creative ideas and help plan content that supports delivery of the Park Authority’s strategic goals through communications
* Build relationships and collaborate with colleagues across the organisation and with external partners to help uncover and shape powerful stories that reflect the breadth of our work.
* Undertake other duties appropriate to the role and grade as required.

Who We Are Looking For

Your skills, abilities and experience should include:

* Experience in a similar communications or public relations role.
* Experience of producing written content and briefings for a range of different outlets and audiences, particularly the ability to digest policy and complex information and turn it into compelling written copy.
* Experience of working with and building relationships with the media to develop and deliver impactful stories.
* Experience of social media community management
* Excellent and confident communicator with strong written and verbal communications skills
* Fluency in Microsoft 365 and digital/social media platforms, tools and solutions

Ideally, But Not Essentially, You’ll Also Have

* An understanding of the Scottish Government policy around Climate Change and Nature, particularly the role of National Parks
* Experience of working with website content management systems and MailChimp (or similar platform)
* Educated to degree level, or equivalent experience of working in marketing, PR or communications
* Journalism qualification.
