Main duties of the job

* Provide high-quality medical care during routine appointments, managing a wide range of conditions.
* Assess patients' health concerns, provide accurate diagnoses, and develop treatment plans.
* Prescribe medication, monitor prescriptions, and offer advice on medication use.
* Provide preventative care, including screenings and lifestyle advice to improve patient health.
* Take medical histories and perform physical examinations.
* Manage long-term conditions, such as diabetes, hypertension, asthma, and mental health conditions.
* Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records, documenting medical histories, treatment plans, and follow-up care using practice management software.


About us

Margaret Street Practice is awell-established and forward-thinking NHS GP practice located in the heart of Ammanford.We also have a branch surgery in the nearby village of Tycroes. Our patientlist of 9500, with a controlled workload, highly organised practice with awell-staffed team of clinical and clerical staff, who hold weekly clinicalmeetings, and actively encourage the pursuit of specialist clinical interests.

The Partnership consists of 4 GPPartners and 1 ANP Partner. The Clinical team consists of 1 Nurse practitioner,4 Practice nurses, 1 Mental Health Specialist Nurse and 1 Nursing Assistant. Clusterteam consists of 1 Cluster Support Pharmacist and 1 Cluster Social Prescriber.

Job responsibilities

As a salaried GP, you willprovide high-quality medical care to our patients, ensuring that eachconsultation is thorough and effective. You will work within a supportiveenvironment, supported by a friendly team of clinicians, administrative staff,and management. This role involves working to ensure excellent patient care andservice, contributing to the development and improvement of practice systems,and participating in training and development activities.

Key Responsibilities

Provide general medical servicesto registered patients, ensuring a high standard of care and professionalism.

Consult with patients regardingtheir health concerns, providing appropriate medical advice, diagnostics, andtreatment.

Prescribe medication as necessaryand ensure the safe management of prescribing within the practice.

Contribute to the development ofpractice policies, guidelines, and quality improvement initiatives.

Participate in regularmulti-disciplinary team meetings to discuss patient care and practice matters.

Conduct home visits whennecessary and in line with practice protocols.

Maintain accurate and up-to-datepatient records. We currently use theVision clinical system but will be transferring to EMIS system in Spring 2026.

Support practice staff and participatein the development of clinical skills and knowledge.

Participate in ContinuingProfessional Development (CPD) and other educational activities as required bythe GMC and NHS Wales.

Maintain up-to-date knowledge ofclinical guidelines, NHS Wales policies, and other relevant developments.

Attend and contribute to practicemeetings, including clinical governance, team briefings, and other meetings.

Promote and adhere to NHS Walesvalues, ensuring that patient care remains central to all activities.


Person Specification


Experience

* Fully registered with the General Medical Council (GMC).
* Current GP membership with the Royal College of General Practitioners (RCGP).
* Listed on the All Wales Medical Performers List
* Completion of GP training (or equivalent).
* Experienced or newly qualified applicants are welcome.
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
* Ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
* Strong organisational and time management skills.
* Knowledge and experience in using Vision and EMIS or other clinical systems. We currently use the Vision clinical system but will be transferring to EMIS system in Spring 2026
* Experience in a salaried GP role within an NHS Wales practice.
* Additional postgraduate qualifications (e.g., Diploma in Clinical Medicine or similar).
* Experience in areas such as chronic disease management, womens health, minor surgery, or child health.
* Understanding of the challenges and opportunities within NHS Wales.
