HMP Brixton is now a Category B male prison since April 2025 housing men on remand. Our patients needs will vary greatly but there will be a focus on mental health, substance misuse and early days in custody. Hours This is a bank role- 0 hour contract through Monday-Sunday Night shifts run from 20:00 to 08:00 Salary £28.12 an hour How will we support you? What you'll be doing As a Mental Health Nurse your responsibilities will vary. You will You will work within a multi-disciplinary team carrying out comprehensive assessments, initiating and reviewing care plans, and developing treatment options. You will undertake medication rounds, and assess and treat patients who may have undergone traumatic experiences and may be distressed You will assess patient’s health needs using an evidence based framework and be able to risk assess use sound clinical knowledge, as well as Open, maintain, close and take part in reviews of individuals being managed under the Prison Suicide and Self Harm risk management system known as Assessment, Care in Custody and Teamwork (ACCT). Qualifications Required NMC registered Mental Health Nurse Evidence of Continued Professional Development Understanding of the complexities of multi-disciplinary and multi-agency working A non-judgmental and compassionate approach Excellent communication skills Although not essential ideal applicants would have experience in a hospital, community or prison environment.
