Role: Practical Instructor – Brickwork

Location: Tresham College – Corby and Wellingborough Campuses

Salary/Benefits: Salary is between £27,717 and £32,515 per annum DOE and Qualifications, 27 days annual leave plus Bank holidays, People’s pension, Retail and Leisure Discounts, excellent professional and personal development opportunities, accessing college courses.

Hours/Weeks: 37 hours per week – 52 weeks per year

Contract Type: Permanent – Full Time

About the role:

We are currently seeking a Practical Instructor in Brickwork to join our Construction department at The Bedford College Group.

As a Practical Instructor, you play an important role in the success of our students through:

1. Maintain Workshop Facilities – Ensure tools, machines, and equipment are secure, serviceable, and meet health and safety standards to support a high-quality student experience.
2. Deliver Practical Teaching – Provide timetabled practical sessions and cover teaching as required, completing associated administration duties promptly.
3. Manage Stock & Equipment – Monitor consumables, maintain inventories, process purchase requisitions, and oversee repairs and servicing of tools and equipment.
4. Ensure Compliance & Safety – Conduct risk and COSHH assessments, uphold site security, and maintain safe, hazard-free workshop environments.
5. Support College Operations – Assist lecturers, contribute to marketing events, and provide guidance to students while promoting safeguarding, equality, and health & safety.

About you:

6. Construction Experience & Qualifications – Hands-on experience in the construction industry with Level 2 NVQ/Diploma; willingness to gain First Aid and forklift certification.
7. Safety & Compliance Knowledge – Strong understanding of safe working practices, COSHH, and health & safety requirements; committed to safeguarding and equality.
8. Practical & Organisational Skills – Skilled in maintaining inventories, preparing and repairing tools, and keeping accurate records with minimal supervision.
9. Professional & Team-Oriented – Demonstrates college values, communicates effectively, and contributes positively to a collaborative team environment.
10. Adaptable & Committed – Flexible with hours and travel, proactive in upskilling, and dedicated to safeguarding, equality, and health & safety compliance.
