Senior Traffic Engineer
Location: Halkyn, North Wales (2 days per week from office and 3 days from home)
Contract Type: Contract
Duration: 6 Months+
Hours: 40 hours per week
Rate: £37 – £45 per hour (PAYE, including holiday pay)
The Role
An experienced Senior Traffic Engineer is required to support a Planning Lead in delivering a programme of speed management and traffic engineering schemes across the trunk road network.
This role focuses on improving highway safety and operational efficiency through the design and delivery of targeted interventions.
Key Responsibilities
Assist in the delivery of speed limit reviews, speed management, and traffic engineering schemes
Manage and deliver a range of highway engineering projects, including:
Highway maintenance and pavement renewals
Traffic calming schemes
Safety improvement schemes
Cycling infrastructure schemes
Junction realignment projects
Traffic signal installations and upgrades
Route treatment schemes
Signing and carriageway marking schemes
Oversee site works, including supervision of contractors
Manage project budgets and handle contractor claims
Prepare contract documentation in line with NEC3 requirements
Produce feasibility studies and technical reports
Undertake and support Road Safety Audits
Conduct Street Lighting reviews
Work with asset management systems and undertake VRS inspections
Attend meetings and occasional site visits across Wales
Requirements
Ideally Incorporated Engineer (IEng) status or equivalent
Minimum 10 years’ experience in traffic engineering
Strong experience delivering highway and traffic schemes
Working knowledge of:
NEC3 Contracts
DMRB (Design Manual for Roads and Bridges)
MCHW (Manual of Contract Documents for Highway Works)
TSRGD (Traffic Signs Regulations and General Directions)
Traffic Signs Manual
Experience in contract management and contractor liaison
Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines
