An exciting opportunity has arisen for a senior Psychological Wellbeing Practitioners (PWP) to join the NHS Talking Therapies: for depression and anxiety service delivered by Talking Therapies Southwark (TTS). We welcome PWPs who have been qualified for a minimum of one year (by Oct 2026) to apply. We are seeking an enthusiastic senior PWP who is passionate about developing their skills in order to support our PWP team and help improve the lives of others. Successful applicant can expect to join a highly valued and motivated TTS workforce who are committed to develop a person-centred and effective psychological assessment and treatment service to the local population.
We have career pathways available, where you will be able to develop your skills and build on your experience to progress into other specialties like High Intensity CBT therapist or Clinical Psychologist.
Main duties of the job
1. To provide assessment and provision of high quality low intensity interventions, e.g. psychoeducation groups and workshops, guided self-help, computerised CBT, pharmacological psychoeducation, drawing form CBT theories and techniques. This work may be face to face, via telephone / web and / or in group format.
2. Attend and fulfil the requirements of the NHS Talking Therapies approved supervision training where appropriate.
3. Provide case management and clinical supervision to Low intensity workers and Low intensity trainees in TTS.
4. Identify training needs across the step 2 team and develop routes for CPD in co-ordination with Step 2 Lead and other SLAM IAPT sites.
5. Offer training to Step 2 clinical staff and Primary Care staff in CBT based interventions.
6. Attend locally organised and national training appropriate to the work role.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
This is a great opportunity for an experienced PWP to further develop the low intensity service provision within NHS Talking Therapies in Southwark and to support the senior management team in expanding the step 2 offer in the service. The successful applicant will be proficient in the delivery of telephone triage assessments and CBT-based guided self-help interventions, and have experience of working with common mental health problems within primary care. The post holder will also have opportunities to co-run groups and workshops with other PWPs or High-Intensity Therapists and experience and skills in this would be very beneficial. This is also an opportunity to develop supervisory skills and gain experience in supervising step 2 clinicians.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
1. Holds a recognised qualification to work as a psychological wellbeing practitioner (e.g. Post Graduate Diploma in Low Intensity Cognitive Behavioural Interventions, or Postgraduate Certificate in Primary Care Mental Health).
2. Qualified as a PWP for a minimum of a year.
Desirable criteria
3. Further post graduate training in relevant areas of professional psychology, mental health practice and/or research design and analysis.
4. Attended NHS Talking Therapies PWP supervision training.
Experience
Essential criteria
5. Significant experience of working within a NHS Talking Therapies service including screening, triaging, assessing and managing risk and liaising with other professionals involved in clients’ care.
6. Experience of developing and facilitating step 2 workshops / groups.
7. Experience demonstrating a range of post-qualifying experiences in offering and delivering the range of evidence-based NHS Talking Therapies low intensity interventions such as computerised CBT, guided self-help and group psycho-education programmes.
8. Experience in working with people presented with LTC / MUS.
Desirable criteria
9. Experience of audit and research.
10. Experience of offering supervision for triage, qualified or trainee PWPs and/or staff mentoring experience.

Essential criteria
11. Knowledge of working with diversity and of working with black and minority ethnic groups (BAME).
12. Demonstrates a sound knowledge of NHS Talking Therapies services/outcome measures and understanding of their use for commissioning, clinical and audit purposes.
13. Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of relevant NICE Guidance and the stepped care model.
Desirable criteria
14. An awareness of severe and enduring mental health presentations (e.g. psychosis, bi-polar, personality disorders).
15. Knowledge of local and Trust-wide mental health services and the protocols/pathways existing between them.

16. Ability to adapt CBT-based self-help protocols taking account of individual client needs (e.g. working cross-culturally).
17. Demonstrates ability to meet agreed/specified clinical activity, outcome & service targets.
18. Able to work autonomously and to manage conflicting demands between clients, the team, the health care system and broader contexts.
