Job Title: Supplier Quality Engineer (Non-Metallic)
Location: Peterlee, UK
Contract Type: 12-month contract (Likely to extend)
Rate: £30.47 per hour (PAYE)
Working Pattern: Full-time, on-site (5 days per week)
About the Role
We are seeking a highly skilled Supplier Quality Engineer with expertise in non-metallic materials to join our team. This role is essential in ensuring that suppliers meet high-quality standards and deliver defect-free components that align with manufacturing specifications and legal requirements. You will play a critical role in improving supplier performance, resolving quality issues, and driving process improvements.
Key Responsibilities
1. Supplier & Part Development: Work closely with non-metallic suppliers to enhance manufacturing quality and efficiency.
2. Quality Assurance: Assess supplier quality systems, conduct audits, and support Supplier Excellence Recognition (SER) programs.
3. Technical Documentation Review: Evaluate Production Part Approval Process (PPAP) submissions, identify gaps, and collaborate with suppliers to ensure compliance.
4. Problem Resolution: Manage Non-Conformance Management (NCM) cases, perform Root Cause Corrective Action (RCCA), and follow through to resolution.
5. Process Knowledge: Understand and oversee manufacturing techniques such as injection molding, rubber forming, foam molding, and rotomolding.
6. Continuous Improvement: Support Pre-Delivery Inspection (PDI) STOP capability and Built-in Quality (BIQ) initiatives.
Requirements
Essential:
1. Strong communication skills - ability to liaise effectively with suppliers and internal teams.
2. In-depth knowledge of manufacturing processes and quality systems for non-metallic components (plastics, foam, rubber, etc.).
3. Experience in supplier quality engineering or manufacturing engineering.
4. Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities with a focus on process improvement.
5. Proficiency in APQP, GD&T, and Engineering Specifications.
6. Familiarity with supplier evaluations and certification processes.
7. Minimum 5+ years of relevant experience (will consider slightly less if highly experienced in non-metallic components).
8. Proficient in Microsoft Office and internal ERP systems.
Desirable:
1. Experience in quality audits (CQMS) and capacity planning (RCCP).
2. Certifications such as Certified Quality Engineer (CQE), Certified Supply Chain Professional (CSCP), or Certified Manufacturing Engineer (CMfgE).
3. Previous experience in a supplier development role within a large manufacturing environment.
