Band 7 Lead Midwife

Main duties of the job
Lead the antenatal clinic day‑to‑day operation, line‑manage the antenatal team, continually review the service for effectiveness and efficiency, drive the service forward, cover as operational coordinator, and support the wider band 7 team with a flexible approach across the maternity service.
Responsibilities
* Lead and manage the antenatal clinic, ensuring quality care and optimal service delivery.
* Line manage team members and oversee training and professional development.
* Conduct service reviews, identify improvements, and implement changes to increase effectiveness.
* Support the wider band 7 team, including operational coordination duties as required.
* Co‑ordinate continuity models of care and liaise with the multidisciplinary team (MDT).
* Ensure patient, staff and service safety through effective risk management.
Qualifications
* Registered Midwife on the relevant part of the NMC register.
* Completed a relevant teaching and assessing course (e.g., Mentorship, SSSA).
* Sound clinical midwife with CPD evidence to maintain registration.
* Prior management experience – minimum 3 years post‑registration.
* Demonstrable clinical knowledge and recent experience in a consultant‑led antenatal setting.
* Experience with clinical emergencies (PROMPT/CTG training within last 12 months).
* Experience in teaching midwives/MSWs and line management.
* Proficiency in IT systems: electronic patient records, referral systems and basic spreadsheets.
* Excellent problem‑solving, prioritising, and communication skills.
* Ability to work effectively in a busy environment and under pressure.
* Flexible and adaptable approach, willingness to participate in board holder rota including weekends and bank holidays.
