Job Title: Tankering Technician Team Leader
Location: Falmer
Contract Type: Permanent
Hours: 37.5 (shift work - 4 on, 4 off rotating nights and days - 6am-6pm days and 6pm-6am nights, and some overtime will be required when deployed for changeover.
Salary: Up to £45k (based on experience and standby) + 20% shift allowance
About the role:
Your primary purpose will be to take full advantage of your leadership experience to manage a team of drivers, ensuring they are ready and capable to respond to events/incidents and restore supply via tankering.
What you will be responsible for:
The Tankering Lead is accountable for the overall operation and performance of the tankering capability.
In addition to delivering routine activities around strategy and management, legal and regulatory compliance, response preparedness, and accounting and finance, the Tankering Lead will be the highest point for escalation and issue resolution, both during and outside of tankering response.
1. To manage and report on performance of the Tankering Team, identifying areas for improvement and addressing areas of underperformance
2. Monitor tankering response during major events/incidents and act as escalation support as and when required
3. Monitor external best practices and collaborate with Tankering Team and wholesale water colleagues to refine operation of the Tankering team, identify opportunities for continuous improvement and plan future development of the capability
4. Monitor completion of operational planning and readiness testing activities, ensuring readiness testing is targeted to address high priority scenarios
5. Forecast and monitor adherence to budgets, taking remedial action where required, and oversee processing of expenses and payments [Responsibility 6]
What you’ll bring to the role:
Essential
6. We are looking for individuals with proven experience of managing a team (preferably a team of drivers), a strong background in operating tankers or HGV's, with a full class 1 (C+E) licence and CPC.
7. Excellent oral and written communication skills, exchanging information and communicating in a clear and concise way
8. Experience in incident/emergency response management or similar roles
9. Good understanding of vehicle inspection, defect reporting, and maintenance requirements.
10. Ability to be assertive when dealing with difficult situations
Desirable
11. Transport Manager CPC qualification
12. 10+ years’ experience in the water/wastewater industry, with extensive experience in wholesale water operations
13. Calm network trained and EUSR Water Hygiene Card (Blue Card) holder
