Senior Health, Safety & Security Manager - Rail projects
Birmingham
This role is responsible for ensuring health, safety, and security management standards are met within development and delivery areas. The role also involves role modeling and embedding the 'Safe at Heart' culture across development and delivery.
Role of Department
* To set the strategic direction, policy, and systems related to Engineering and Integration, Environmental Management, Innovation, Quality, and Assurance of Health, Safety, and Security.
* To provide assurance to the Executive and Board, lead major strategic projects, and offer expert advice to the business.
* To develop a 'Safe at Heart' culture throughout the supply chain, driving H&S performance beyond current industry best practices.
Accountabilities
* To be accountable for role modeling and embedding the 'Safe at Heart' culture and ways of working throughout delivery.
* To support risk-based Health, Safety, and Security operational assurance within development and delivery areas.
* To oversee and ensure compliance with centrally defined Safety and Assurance processes and policies across Occupational Health, Safety, and Security.
Additional responsibilities include supporting investigations of incidents and promoting Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) in all work activities.
Skills:
* Ability to lead and work collaboratively as part of a team.
* Strong analysis skills to identify hidden problems through honest analysis and probing techniques.
* Effective problem-solving skills, using rigorous logic and methods to resolve difficult problems.
* Ability to write technical reports, including assurance and investigation reports, and interface with staff across all project levels.
Knowledge:
* Comprehensive understanding of all aspects of health and safety, including occupational health, and security policies and procedures.
* Broad knowledge of assurance activities, tools, techniques, and their application.
Experience:
* Experience delivering assurance across major programs or complex organizations with multiple stakeholders.
* Experience leading a multi-disciplinary Quality or Health & Safety team.
* Professional qualification in Health and Safety or equivalent experience as a Chartered Member.
