Description
The job itself
We are looking to recruit a worker to support a young lady who is 16 years old, for 4 hours per week term time and 8 hours per week during the school holidays.
She has an Autism diagnosis and Epilepsy, so ideally would like support from someone who is caring and can support with health needs if required.
She is a creative young person and would benefit from a support worker who is engaging and encouraging, and who can support her to take part in creative and social activities. The support worker should be able to work on their own initiative to help arrange and plan sessions, support her to access activities, and make plans with her.
Support will include spending time together taking part in activities such as art and craft, music, trips to the cinema, shopping, bowling, and eating out, in a relaxed and supportive way.
During term time, the hours will be mainly afternoons and evenings, supporting her to access activities, attend social events, and engage with the community for shopping and eating out.
The support during the school holidays is flexible with arrangements made with the family and to provide support for accessing the community, travel, attending groups, activities and days out, guided by the young person's choice and interests.
The worker should have knowledge of working with young people and should be approachable and confident in working and communicating.
The worker will also need to be flexible and understand that the day's activities may be led by how the young person is feeling.
Continuity of support is important for the young person, and the family is therefore seeking a support worker who is able to commit to the role on a longer‑term basis.
Must hold a valid driving licence.
